Hello hunter community
Ive been away from the game for quite some time and havnt really followed what has happened to pets since 6 month or so before cata release. Ive read about the new "bring the buff your raid needs"-pet-thingy and totally get it, but still ingame and on several forumposts I read "Devilsaurs are the best dps for BM, they do awesome dps". However, I was under the expression all pets (within the same family, ferocity/tenacity/cunning) did the same dps now?
So theoreticly a devilsaur would do the same dps as a wolf (bringing the same raidbuff), or have I missed something?

The only difference is that exotic pets (like the devilsaur) have an extra ability which can be quite nice.
At least get a Corehound should there be no Shaman or Mage in your group (they have a similar skill like bloodlust/timewarp).
In normal DPS terms all pets do the same damage.
Correct me if I'm wrong though...

Thx for the reply.
Yea I know about the exotic ability, but most of them doesnt seem to bring "pure dps" (I know thats not the most important thing, what the raid needs is, but for the sake of the discussion). Exceptions seems to be Chimaeras Froststorm Breath, Corehounds Ancient Hysteria, and Worms Burrow Attack (but using a tank-pet to dps seems a bit strange to me).
I was just asking because of the (many) people who kept saying/posting "Devilsaur do better dps then other pets" and I was pretty sure they were wrong.
I just wanted to make sure Ive understood the changes. Thx again

The problem is old posts dont often get deleted. You are probably reading something from this time last year, before they attempted to "level" pets. At that point, Devilasaurs were top BM dps because they had a special ability which was like a stacking buff on themselves, raising their attack power. Couple this with BM's focus on pet damage, and you had a very powerful pet.
If you are raiding BM today, a devilasaur isnt a bad choice, but I would make sure you have a spirit beast and a corehound first. A corehound if no mage or shaman (unlikely) and a spirit beast because any raid can use some extra healing. That is, of course, provided that all other key raid buffs are provided by other raid members and you dont need to bring a "normal" pet for a buff.
A devilasaur might be useful in boss fights where the boss heals, as it would save you the global CD on your sting, but I am not sure what, if any, other classes might also provide you with this debuff.
Mostly I see devilsaurs in pvp, where again, their ability saves you a GCD, and their massive size, especially when under the effects of bestial wrath, make them pretty screen-filling, and the hunter just a hair harder to target as a result. I am not saying they are the best pvp pets--not by a longshot. It just happens to be where I see them the most.

No, new stuff. I pretty much /ignore posts older then a month by default ;)
I guess Im not the only one who havnt kept up with the changes, and people are giving old outdated advice. I used to have a devilsaur just because of the old AP-stacking Monstrous Bite, but now my prefered pet is indeed a spiritbeast, Arcturis.
