If your assignment was "heal X" and "X" did not die (and other healers didn't have to drop their assigns to help you out) then you did your job.
That being said your healing style seems a bit strange. Riptide should be used pretty much on cooldown, meaning it never drops off the tank(s) and you can also cast it at random raid members if you got the time. You should also use Healing Surge only with Tidal Waves active (and prioritize it over GHW then because with the 30% crit buff it is actually more mana efficient) and save HW / GHW for the times Tidel Waves are not active.

Any number of things could have happened here.
One thing that comes to my mind, (as I've encountered it before on my disc priest), is that it's possible that you got stuck with a meter watcher of a raid leader. Tank healers are normally going to be lower on the meters on some fights, since they're working their magic on a smaller collective health defect (disc priests are extra fun as most meter watchers don't have absorb monitoring on their meters :P). Couple this with a raid lead who doesn't properly understand the healing roles and their resulting effects on logs and meters and you've got a recipe for disaster.
Another possibility is that the raid lead may be used to running with a resto shaman on raid heals, and been keeping an eye out for specific things that a raid healer would be doing, that a tank healer wouldn't (like more healing rain and chain heals). In my experience, resto shaman are a class where the difference between raid healing and tank healing is extra visible, since chain heals and healing rain are so flashy.
Honestly, in a situation like yours there's not much you can really do to analyze the situation without asking the raid lead their opinion as to why they think you suck. If they're unwilling to provide constructive feedback, then they fail as a raid leader and there's not much that can be done about it. In the future though, you can run your combat log and use a tool like world of logs to help analyze the fight data. Being able to post a log will also allow folks like us to provide our own analysis.
Best of luck though, and hopefully it won't happen again. At least with the new raid lockouts, you're only saved to Magmaw, if some other group winds up needing a healer further in :)

The hotfix was already live last night. I was getting 61k greater healing wave crits with UE, it is pretty beastly now.

I just did Magmaw and would agree with what everyone else is saying here. Our raid leader assigned the pali to the MT and priest to the OT (the feral druid), with the Tree and Myself on Raid. I seldom pay attention to assignments though. If that MT is mid to low HP you better believe I'm putting a riptide, earthshield, and GHW/Surgeing him.
I'd like to also point out, however, that raid healing on this fight is a lot easier for a resto shaman. Especially if you do the "Lone Ranger" strategy, of having all stack in melee range and have a lone person (hunter/OT) taking the pillars and keeping adds busy.
Its crazy but, I nearly spam cast
Healing Rain
. I kept a
Riptide
(with
Charred Glyph
) up on the MT, OT, and one other person at all times. After each riptide I'd either cast a Surge, Greater, or normal Healing Wave. I'd Unleash onto the MT and Chain Healed our group after each Lava Spew session.
The trick with using
Healing Rain
(since it uses 47% base mana) so much is to drop one
or
Symbol of Hope
per impale. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, be sure to have
... I did over 500,000 dmg during the impale phases and was able to regen back up to full mana each time. I so hope that doesn't get nerfed.
here is the log on the fight
at the world of logs
click on my name to take to the individual page, then the buffs gained tab to see the over 200,000 mana regen'd from
. Also check out the dmg tab to see the half million isn't exaggerated.

GHW > Healing Surge now. (Not counting in an very quick emergancy heal needed of course)
Either way shammy healing is lacking. You shouldn't be expected to be the main force of healing in a raid and rather should work off emergancy. Your pretty much a 'burst' healer now giving up supplements of riptide, earth living, and HW suppliment until the big guns are needed. AoE healing your going to use healing rain to help heal people up most likely and after that you don't spam chain healing (specially if it won't be fully benefitial) your going to sit back and let that heal and get other healers to cover after. That CH will be your "everyones low" emergancy deal on fights like chim and where theres enough targets to warrent spamming it. Consider it a "HW" replacement for when your supplementing the group and need to raise people up quickly and theres a good number around for it.
TC I will say is NOT needed if you play a shammy right. It can be alright but chances are your mana won't be draining like crap unless the other healers are slacking off in most fights.

Well at the risk of actually letting ppl see how I play, here is a 10 man Magmaw kill. I purposfully zoomed in the healing meters so you could clearly see what happens.
I hope this helps you better understand the encounter. Video is uploaded @ 1080P, so feel free to full screen it.

rather gutsy of you to weave multiple LB's into a normal healing rotation... when I did LB it was only in the impale session, so I could spam heal everyone and keep them as close as full as possible to they wouldn't feel as stressed/pressure...

heh, yeah, they are very draining on the pool. the boss mechanics are the only reason they viable for this fight... but like i've always maintained, healing is more art than science (compared to dps). As long as everyone (or tank) lives, then your job is done...
now remember, there is fine art, and contemporary art; efficient healing, and sloppy painful healing.......
