Now as all of you know the cataclysm Raid bosses are worlds more creative then there WotLK counterparts. But there is always room for improvement. So here, you can post your interesting and creative ideas for new bosses or mechanics. For instance how about a boss where the room is filled with water and everyone is given a water breathing buff. You proceed to fight a giant angler fish who has variety of standard combat abilities. The interesting part would be when the light on his angler goes out and he goes into a frenzy that causes massive AoE damage until the raid can recharge the angler orb.
As long as I don't have to swim the 26,000 feet downwards in order to find him ;)
I've always said it would be interesting to have a truly random boss in the game. One that you can't look up videos and strategies months in advance. Perhaps a boss that had different abilities from week to week.
Say it was a weekly quest (similar to the one in Dalaran during WotLK) which teleported you into a gigantic room. In the middle of the room is a Neutral (similar to Algalon) sphere or amorphous object. Give it appropriate amounts of health for 10/25 R/H modes. Then pull 4 random abilities from all "raid boss" type mobs in the game and apply modifiers such that the abilities match the level of the raid. Perhaps 7-8 abilities for "heroic" mode.
Now obviously, the loot could be much more profitable overall given the randomness of the fight. Perhaps on 10 man regular mode, 4 items are dropped, randomly selected from similar level boss fights throughout the game, and corresponding increases for heroic and 25 man modes.
Now of course, this boss would be highly volatile as far as difficulty, and "progression" wouldn't really exist, since each week it would be totally different and random. This being said, there would be sure to be some weeks which were incredibly easy due to the mechanics all turning out to be from tank-and-spank type fight, and other weeks where the fight literally is un-killable because the mechanics all work together in such a way that the fight is impossible. As long as the player-base understood that this boss was supposed to be simply a new challenge every week, with the possibility of extra loot due to the randomness.
For example. Say you walk in there on a 10 man regular mode. Engage the boss and a green beam shoots out towards a healer and jumps between all players and one-shots some of those at the end of the jump. Ah! A
C'thun mechanic! Alright, he apparently targets the healer with highest aggro and uses that green beam. Next attempt: everyone spreads out and the healer tanks the green beam away from everyone else. Suddenly, hellfire graphics appear all around the room, and meteors come crashing down. Ah! A generic object-falling-from-the-sky-watch-out mechanic which in this case happens to be from Kil'Jaeden. Easy to move out of.
But moments after the meteors start falling, the boss does a cast of
Static Cling and no one realizes and the entire raid is suddenly immobile. A few players are dispelled before the meteors hit, but the rest are all killed instantly....
And so on. Sure, maybe once in a while the boss ends up with an ability like
Hand of Death, which though survivable at 85 with decent gear, might be "spammable" by the boss, and the fight ends up being impossible for the week.
If "random" irks you, maybe even have someone at Blizzard pick out a set of abilities each week to ensure the fight doesn't have any "insta-kill" mechanics: would take 10 minutes. I just think it would be neat to have a weekly challenge where no one would feel like they're just walking in 's footsteps, and your ability to succeed relied on your ability to adapt and think on the fly, not on watching boss timers and memorizing boss mechanics.
Then again, because my thinking is coming from actually being in that top 1% of raiding guilds, it most-likely follows that a majority of the player-base wouldn't enjoy a random boss. But here's to ideas that never become reality! :D
