I wanted to sound the alarm for other freaks like me that do cooking achievements. If you want to get
Iron Chef
completed, you'd better start looking on your respective servers NOW for those BoE recipes that are "no longer obtainable in the game" since The Shattering, because they will get increasingly rare and expensive as time goes by! Here's a repost of what I posted on the achievement page:
***
Here is the most important thing you need to know to get this achievement!
***
As of patch 4.0.6, there are only
195
recipes you can currently get from the game
(196 for rogues, who can learn
Thistle Tea
)
. In order to get to
200
, you MUST know at least
FIVE
of the following seven recipes that are "no longer obtainable in the game," meaning The Shattering removed the NPC's that sold them or the quests that rewarded them.
(You only have to know 4 if you're a rogue, and we all hate you for it.)
I included notes on where they used to come from, to help you determine which faction to search on; you can always move them through the neutral Auction House to your own factions if needed.
*
Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops
-- Silithus+BWL quest chain reward, both factions
*
Fillet of Frenzy
-- Alliance vendor
*
Kaldorei Spider Kabob
-- Low-level Alliance (Night Elf) quest reward
*
Soothing Turtle Bisque
-- Quest reward in Hillsbrad Foothills, both factions
*
Tasty Lion Steak
-- Alliance quest reward
*
Undermine Clam Chowder
-- Vendor in Tanaris, both factions
*
Dig Rat Stew
-- Bind-on-Pick-up recipe, so if you didn't get it before The Shattering, you can't get it at all, as the NPCs no longer sell it.
(It should be noted that there is an
old BoE version
of this you could get from a Horde quest, but this item has not been obtainable in BoE form for years, so your chances of finding it are tiny.)
You can now only get these from other players who saved them from before the Shattering. So start looking for these NOW and worry about the rest later, because these will get increasingly rare and expensive as time goes by. Full details can be found at

I found out about this when I started doing research about it and found I would only be able to get 199. But I lucked out: on my server, there's some gold farmer type who's been posting cross-faction items for years. I just found 4 of the Kaldorei Spider Kabobs and 5 of the Fillet of Frenzy recipes that he posted for pre-shattering prices of about 100g each. I bought them all up! So check for all of the above recipes on your server now!

Haha, true enough. I think the BoE version of the recipe for Thistle Tea hasn't been obtainable since before Burning Crusade, so that would be an incredibly rare find, unless you happened to be cooking back then and obtained it as a non-rogue then.

We had one on here a few monthes ago that was talking about selling his. That he had locked away on a alt. They were talking 40k + for the recipe. So yes its very rare. Rare Enought that some people will server change an alt just to buy it.
I not one that goes for achievements. But I'm sure that Blizz. well add more recipes in the futurn.

Not to diminish this, but it is very likely that the devs will continue to add more recipes here and there. They just added the mugglesnot one along with re-adding the fishing lure one, and in wotlk, I know they added a few during patches (the jelly one and I think a few more).
I also know that if it is impossible to get hte achievement on a new character, the devs will definitely add enough recipes to allow it to be accomplished.

Kungaloosh was originally supposed to be rewarded by the quest in SB, but it "didn't work" so it was introduced to be rewarded by the mage in the Dalaran sewers - just as an example.
