Hello wowhead lurkers, forums posters, stalkers and any sort of creartures reading this!
Recently I got my rogue to hit the 85 level mark and started gearing him up, I started off as Sub, switched to Assa since it clearly provided more dps, and then I got a slow mainhand and decided to give Combat a try.
Beeing a bit rusty, I havent played combat since kharazan raiding, I decided id try several rotations whic led me to the classic SnD> 4SS > 1RvS > Rupture/Evisc.
However I could clearly see a drop in my dps, roughly 1k, there was somethingthing ovisouly wrong, it was either the specc or me, if there is any help you can provide id be glad

Try this
Forget what the experts say for one week. Just start up slice n dice hit evisc every 5 combos (keeping slice up) and burn Adrenaline Rush whenever its up (no dont worry about timing it with Deep Insight)
Then compare with with the reccomended rotation and get back to me.
I'm not arguing or trying to disrespect the experts. I just think not all things are equal when it comes to latency and particular reaction skills.

He'll do ~5%-~8% less dps than what he did before.
Try;
SS
SnD
SS
SS
SS (if you didn't get a double proc)
RvS
Rupture / Evis
There is no need to do 4SS anymore, because the glyph gives a chance to get double combo points, which is a compulsory glyph for a Combat rogue.

Yes on paper he will do 5-8% less
Try what I said two posts up. If not for one week. one day

Yeah I did, but he never mentioned he had problems with the difficulty of the rotation, it was more of a case of not using a variation of the correct one.

You can get the majority of your dps from a much simpler rotation.
ie. 5cp Evisc while rolling S&D
This is, and has been, true of every class out there to a greater or lesser extent. In most cases, it is very easy to obtain >90% of your classes capacity for DPS. For players with poor latency, poor framerate, poor reaction time, clicking heroes, etc, a simplified rotation will often produce the same, if not better, DPS than a full, more complex rotation.
If most players follow your case study, they will see little to no change in their DPS. This is because when they attempt a more complex rotation, they are making mistakes (due to any of the issues listed above).
The "experts" you reference, are theorizing best possible dps outcome.
By the rough numbers, if you:
1) don't use rupture at all - 1% DPS loss
2) don't use Revealing Strike at all - 1-2% dps loss
It is very easy to make mistakes that cover that 3% total loss from your suggestion when attempting a more difficult rotation. However, the most skilled and equipped (computer, mods, etc) players will be able to squeeze additional dps from the "better" rotation.
Not that I am the most skilled rogue, but I try to stick to rupture on the easier fights...
However, if it is a new fight to me, especially one dodging lots of stuff on the floor, being on interrupt duty, etc.
Dropping rupture makes the fight easier and cuts down the chances of missing a kick or
standing in stuff too long while worrying about clipping a rupture tick...
Once I get the fight down, rupture goes back into the rotation...
