You can't help a person who won't help themselves, that being said....you can always show people the way to help. Ask around, and see if there is anyone you know in the AA program. Results don't lie, it works. Maybe someone from the program can approach "john" discreetly and offer to help him help himself.

Uh. Results don't lie. It is precisely as effective as no program at all.
This is, however, probably because the AA design is only a good fit for some people, but courts tend to mandate that people use it, so there's a lot of people in it for whom it's a bad program.
Basically, some people get better results from accepting that they're powerless, other people get better results from deciding to take control. Both strategies work for some people, and fail badly for others.
People are not all the same. One size does not fit all.
