Take it in context - a sob story, especially a crappy one, is no reason to let someone off the hook.
You're conflating an actual tragedy "woman commits crime to feed child" with qq about a relatively minor inconvenience with no real world downside "someone sniped my phat lewtz in Booty Bay". It hard to 'take things in context' when they're so obviously inappropriately used.

No, it's 'woman commits crime to feed child' to 'woman evades tax to buy gift for friend'. You're letting the sob story get in the way of logical reasoning.
Would it be any different if it was 'woman commits crime to give her child a good education'?

No. Because the whole thing falls apart as soon as you start making real life analogies to illustrate your point. Just as it did for lonewarrior.
/sigh
Real life analogies don't break arguments. It's the same reason why "IT'S JUST A GAME" isn't a suitable excuse for anything either.

First, if you've ever dealt with GMs, you know perfectly well that isn't true. If someone submits a ticket over a skinning agreement (and hasn't done anything else actionable, like harassment), what will happen is they'll get a form letter and an apology that they won't be informed of what happens. That's what happens in most loot disputes, often even for legitimate cases of scamming.
Have you ever been involved in a scam resolution? If not, maybe that explains why you think GMs will never get involved in anything.
If you've been scammed against, and a GM actually takes action, they do let you know that they've rectified the scam behaviour and restored the items as requested. Ironically enough, the only time I've seen this (since I haven't been scammed myself) is when my brother bought a guild from someone, and an outstanding scam ticket restored about 2000g worth of items that had been previously stolen.
Did you think they just restore the items or give you back gold randomly without telling you that they did?
Second, please stop claiming random opinions as facts. Unless you're a Blizzard employee or quoting one, you can do no more than guess what GMs are or are not "empowered" to do. If you claim otherwise, please provide a link or other background information (or a photo of your employee ID ;) ). Until then, I'm going to keep assuming that GMs hand out punishments based on whether people violate policy, not whether they can or can't "work it out themselves".
Scamming (including violating in-game agreements on loot distribution) is a violation of policy. Ergo, GMs can hand out punishments for it. I'm happy to keep assuming that too.
A group leader can break agreements under any rule setting. If they promise to use FFA, or not to use FFA, and then break the promise, then there you are. Again though, in LFD the idea of loot settings is off the table, so even referring to them tends to imply they're not talking about LFD. (It doesn't mean they're explicitly excluding LFD either - it means that whether LFD is included is vague, which is my point.)
So like the other fellow said, if it's vague, then why assume that it's not included?

I'm sorry. I'm just having a hard time getting my head around the similarity between a parent trying to feed her child and the terrible plight of lonewarrior's imaginary WoW girlfriend trying to to transfer a mechano-hog between factions.
If I give the bike back can we all just pretend this thread never happened?

No, in almost all loot disputes I think they don't restore the items, don't return your gold, and don't tell you what they did. The main reason I think this is because that's what it says they do, right smack in the middle of their ninja-looting policy. It's in the paragraph beginning "In almost all situations..". Of course you already know that, because it's not like you'd waste everyone's time by lecturing about Blizzard's published loot policy without having read it.
Touche. That doesn't change the fact that BoE ninja'ing is an enforceable action where loot rules are agreed upon, as noted in the paragraph ending "Scams, however, are a violation, and may occasionally accompany a looting dispute."

I made a mistake earlier in my example with sniping ... how I should have portrayed it is ..would you snipe a family member, friend or your Guildmaster and them knowing you did it? If your answer is yes then I give you kudo for your courage...but I doubt any of you would. But you would snipe a stranger..so that makes you coward.
Yes on both counts, except it would be a lot more delicious on the first part, if it were my GM I would just be ecstatic with that, I truly would and I would write it on big green letters on Gchat at the same time I pressed the "buyout" button, I can only imagine for how long the jokes would continue to come in, and sure as hell I wouldn't return the item.
On the second part, the one about a stranger, I'd just tell him I would return it for half price on the faction specific AH, and just call it a stupid tax.
BTW, I would do both from my main, not from a banker alt.

Yes they do return loot in case of a ML ninjaing loot, I saw it happen at least 3 times with deathbringers will in ICC, I know it because I took the trouble of asking the players that won the rolls.
About scams, I saw someone saying ( in trade ) they had been scammed with a crafting from another player and just warning ppl about the other player, I wisped him and told him to report it and He did get his mats back.

Lol yeah. But, is there an addon for N-AH sniping? I would still like to answer the OP's question.
Edit, Oh look at that, Page 11 now.

Anyone notice that on the first page, the first few comments kind of tried to push the OP away form sniping. What happen to those posters.
Self-righteous..you're darn skippy I am. The keyword is "self" and it will take more then some paper thin comments to knock me off my pedestal.
I only bothered to read the top sentence.
Self righteous does not mean what you think it does.
As for the term "Righteous"..people like to throw around words like that to try to diminish me when they are feeling uncomfortable with their own argument....like I'm standing on some Pulpit preaching brimstone and fire to the sinners. That word doesn't bother me or frighten me...just another word to describe being free from the feeling of guilt...someone try to be a good person. When I emphasized "self" I meant that I hold myself to such standards...I don't impose it on anyone else. But I will defend my position and I will defend people who are being sniped. My position is easy.
Look at the responses of those on the other side, every conceivable excuse about the people that do it about the technically of it..yada yada yada.
But I've yet to see one person just come out and say it's how I play this game. When I say that..I mean very simply would you snipe your family members, your friends or your guildmates?
It's a very simple question. If the proponents of sniping truly believe their position that there is no unethical nature to sniping then they will say "yes" irregardless of the repercussion. At least this person has no pretense. To him the game is open warfare to friend and foe alike...roll ninjering, bank tab looting, it's all good. Fair enough...I'll put him on my ignore list and stay to my little corner of WoW. A person who plays WoW like that isn't long for this game anyway..I'll just wait them out.
Now if they can't say "yes" then their admitting there is some a little underhanded about sniping.
They will only employ it when they don't know their victim. So what does this say about someone's character? Is this really the face of the WoW community?
Anyway I'm going to keep defending the nameless. Sniping sucks.
Yowsa...
@lone: Self-righteousness isn't a virtue, it's a conceit. I'm not pitiful and I don't have a guilty conscience and unlike you I don't have anything I need to prove here. I wonder what kind of hole you are filling up in your life to be demonstrating such an ego-display of faux morality in one of the places where it possibly matters the least. If you really think any of your incoherent rantings are putting anyone to shame, you need help. Maybe try turning off the machine and taking a walk.
In the meantime... you can find me in BB waiting for some sucker to slip up :)
If it's incoherent...then maybe you ought to take another course from your online Forrest Gump school of higher learning. Yes do us all a favor and stay in Booty Bay ...one less scrub in LFD.
wtb paragraphs 10g/stack.
Did you hurt your hairy knuckles banging that comment out on the keyboard?
A previous complaint I post too fractured...now this. Running out of ammo aren't we?
Have a nice day :)
