seems pretty self explanatory to me...
nothing to see here...

in both cases you buy 250 for 375.
you lose 375 and gain 250.
as someone who doesn't PvP i can turn my justice into honour but it will be at a loss. a PvPer can do likewise. it's always a loss to do so.

so, 4.1 has got to be getting close now and we have a bit of an odd patch coming for warlocks that isn't showing any signs of changing.
on live sims put destro and demo at 27.6k and 26.7k dps respectively with affliction around 26.5k.
empirical numbers (in this case taken from
state of dps
) puts destro at 21.9k, demo at 19k and affliction on 19.8k.
we have some reasonably stable balance in our specs right now with destro's lead mostly explained by bane of havoc's strength on several fights.
4.1's changes changes the sims to look like:
destro - 27.6k
demo - 26.7
affliction - 29k
affliction has overtaken both other specs on sims with drain reportedly staying ahead of SB right up to a massive simulated latency of 700ms
as someone who enjoys affliction but REALLY dislikes using drain as a filler spell this all worries me as we go into 4.1. the patch is addressing some important issues, mostly regarding pets, by fixing mana feed for the fel hunter and guard and making the doomguard correctly the better choice for single targets. the other affliction changes (most notably shadow mastery) just seem unneeded and unhealthy.
i'd like to see a small fix to demo to bring it up a little in damage. it suffers more than the others when going from a patchwerk sim to real situations and a good fix for this would be to make the felguard a genuine DPS increase over the succubus, possibly through fixing the underpowered glyph.

Any word about when this goes live? Hoping next week
:)
From MMO-Champ:
When is Patch 4.1?
People keep asking when Patch 4.1 is, the only thing we know is that the release isn't imminent. We didn't see any Release Candidate build on the PTRs and Blizzard is still implementing things left and right. If I had to give an estimation I would say the patch will hit the live servers before the end of the month if we're lucky, but definitely not before that.

ah well, that gives me some hope for some more tweaking before things go live then.

700ms is massive? Cause that's pretty standard latency for downunder. The warlock community seems divided once again. Cause asakawa, I love using Drain Life as our filler, and there are plenty of others to do also. I'm not saying there arn't plenty of people that hate it of course, but while Blizz has said they don't want us using it, they still havn't actually done anything about it. I guess we shall have to wait and see how blizz responds to Drain being better.

my issues are purely mechanical. you can't spam a drain spell so there's no way to effectively maximise your output. macroing adds 2x your latency to every cast so you're left just timing it yourself.
that's great but you can't afford to give it that much attention in a complicated boss fight. press it too early and you clip the last tick (which for drains is just as bad as it was pre-4.0); press it too late and you lose potential damage.

I know you're talking about PvE, but the affliction changes are needed for PvP (shadow mastery and haunt buff). Single target damage by warlocks in PvP is laughable.

True. We've got the UA buff coming. In addition we get our single target damage buffed, but spread damage nerfed a bit. I wonder how this will affect..

Today's notes were a release candidate. So patch will be within the next few weeks (end of april/beginning of may according to Boubouille)

Just out of curiosity, is demo going to be using the felguard for single target fights after 4.1? As far as I can see, the only thing getting buffed is mana feed, which pretty much just balances the talent across all warlock pets. I was under the impression that the succubus does more damage due to the felguard glyph being $%^&e.
Might be time to suck it all back up and spec affliction!
Also, mmo-champ has an interesting blue post regarding male/female warlock pet choices! Looking forward seeing male belfs with male succubus pets!

Succubus still does more damage on single targets which is a shame, yes. However the Mana Feed change is still a really good one as it means you're not overly disadvantaged if you do need to use the Felguard. An example being on Maloriak, you want the Felguard for the AoE but the vast majority of the fight is still sinlge target.

Meh, totally unneeded. People have been whining for a female meta form for a long time instead.
Btw the male equivalent of a succubus is an incubus ;)

On a side note, Mind Flay works the same way as a dot, in fact it is classed as a dot in every way except that you have to channel it. But it doesn't clip the last time, it benefits from anything that buffs periodic damage etc etc. Why wouldn't they do the same to Drain Life? Blizz you confuse me.
Post by

Drains do get all the benefit that DoTs do from spells and effects that increase periodic damage. Hence, why mastery increases Drain damage for Affliction.
Mind Flay has all the issues that I personally hate about Affliction Drain specs. A channelled filler spell is just annoying.

Just wondering, is it worth for affliction to give up
Bane
AND
Shadow and Flame
to get Mana feed 2/2 ? Because I can barely hit tier 2 if I choose those talents.
It kinda feels that I'm not giving a whole group buff just to increase my own, which seems pretty weird.
Also, not having a 2,5 casting shadowbolt and applying the 5% crit debuff, seems kinda lame.

Drain spec takes 3/3 SnF and mana feed.
SB spec takes 3.3 SnF and 3/3 bane, forsaking mana feed.
