The Social Changes in WoW - What do you guys think?

Hey all, I was thinking about something the other day and want to know your opinions on this.
I've been playing WoW for about 4 years now so I have definitely seen all of the changes it has gone through. One thing though is I think its harder for people to "meet and be friends" on WoW now. Let me explain by example....
Back when I first started I remember questing and how it took forever just to level up. So I would ask in general chat (/1 Ashenvale chat or something) if anyone would help me with a quest. I would have 3 or 4 people respond, gladly willing to help me out.
In WoW today, some of the responses would be...
/1 lol Noob or /1 It's easy - do it yourself! etc.
So back then people were more willing to help each other and you were able to "meet" more people out and about in the world of Azeroth. Granted, people have guilds and they can help you out but it was just more fun to meet up with your "questing" friends. If you played WoW a couple years ago then you know what I mean.
I think one of the difficulties in this also is the fact that leveling is almost a joke now. People speed level so fast that you don't even have to quest anymore. You can just stay in SW (or Org if your Horde) and just que for randoms all day...Its a little sad, you don't see as many people out questing today. Anyhow, just wanted to know your guys thoughts on all of this. Thanks!

People play the game differently. At this point in the game, people have done the level grind so many times, that some of them don't want to do it again. And truthfully, yes, it is easy to level now a days; even the few group quests out there are painfully easy to out level in no time flat.
Sure you can stand in the major city and instance grind....but how is that sad? People want to dungeon crawl, have fun in their own way. Myself, the social aspect isn't from the zones, but from my guild; while I'm grinding out my 7th alt, I keep up a running chatter with the guild mates, talking about the news, new tv shows, anime(alright, it's a small group for that one but still). Do you have friends who play the game? If they aren't in your guild, get their realID's and chat with them while you are leveling.

Sure, I have friends who play the game in RL. My point though is that I think its harder for people to meet and be friends on WoW - for the reasons I stated. And like I said, I have no qualms against guilds, but It would be nice to meet people outside of the guild or RL friend realm.
I just think the social perimeter has shrunken way down in WoW.

Well, interesting little story; I have a profile on a dating site, and actually met a fellow player off it. Add their realID and I chat with them while I play. Lots of different ways to meet people; but if you are expecting it in the lowbie zones, don't; you zip through them way too fast. Maybe you can meet up with new players while doing dailies in the new end game zones.

Do we really need 1-2 threads a week made about how the WoW community has changed so much? Adam nailed it with his first post. And I have seen plenty of people questing while I level my 35 priest and have ran into plenty of helpful and nice people along the way, it may just be your bad luck or your server.

anime(alright, it's a small group for that one but still).
lucky, i get flamed for talkin about anime in my guild >.<
to the OP i understand what you mean, the social aspect of this game has changed quite a bit, i do look back nostalgicly at lvling up for the first time, everything seemed new and wide open

The game's population hasn't necessarily become less helpful as much as the percentage of helpful people has been diluted due to the increased population.
I still run into helpful, friendly people occasionally - and I still ran into complete jerks when I started playing, shortly before BC launch.
