Phasing...

Is everyone else having HUGE problems questing in groups in the new areas? I was in a party and completed a quest slightly before my partner and we went into different phases and then when he caught up the quest was broken and never progressed (the Blood and Thunder! quest) until we disbanded and now the person whom you are supposed to turn the quest into isn't appearing on his screen.
My 2 cents: Phasing = dumb.

So what you're saying is that Blizzard sacrificed working multiplayer in a Massive Multiplayer game for a "cool" soloing experience...bravo Blizzard. Bravo.

I've been waiting for a new phasing topic to start because I have something to say!
/soapbox rant + wall of text
I don't mind the
idea
of phasing, seeing things progress in areas where you have made some progress is cool. In TBC it worked well in an areas here and there and so proved to be unique.
That being said, Blizzard went absolutely, positively phasing
crazy
and in doing so have totally made me dislike most of it in this expansion. I mean come on! There are entire zones (Silverpine Forest, I'm looking squarely at you) where if you don't do the entire chain not only is it phased, making grouping difficult but if you move ahead to another quest hub in that zone there are NO quests. To me this borders on absurd.
And this isn't jut confined to one zone. So far I have encountered three zones that are either completely or partially phased to the point where almost no quests are available unless you do an entire chain.
Silvepine Forest
Stonetalon Mountains
Eastern Plaguelands
And there are likely even more zones but these are just those I've seen while checking out new quests (some of which I couldn't get to until I did a chain of other quests).
Whatever happened to the days where you could pick up questing, with friends, wherever you wanted to? So you want to skip to certain quest hubs just to grab a couple of pieces of gear? Friend needs help with a group quest towards the end of a chain? In the past group quests were -optional- and you could grab some friends to help you. Having NPC help is nice but it should never be mandatory.
I understand that they were trying to put in some good story and I really appreciate that, seriously. But
forcing
people to do a 10-15 quest chain for story is something totally different. I realize some people will say "they aren't forcing you to do the quests", and I agree that it is my decision but if I want to get X piece of gear I have to do the chain. If people aren't interested in the story, making them do a long quest chain isn't going to make them interested. They'll simply /afk while they are riding the autopilot horse next to the faction boss or riding the balloon of doom.
I completely hate the idea that early quest hubs should be
required
to access the quests in later ones.

Phasing = dumb.Yes, because the gaming world staying exactly the same all the time is just so exciting.

Also, the speed of levelling is such now that quest rewards really only last a few hours anyway - doing specific quests for specific gear is surely now even more redundant?
But the speed of leveling is not helping the chained-quest/phasing argument, it is hurting it. If I choose to do some quests in Azshara and then want to see what is going on in Silverpine Forest, I -have- to do lower level (possibly even gray) quests to get to quests further in that zone. This is the part that bothers me.
And once I've finished in Silverpine Forest, I head back to Kalimdor to hit Stonetalon Mountains, I have to do the same thing again because there are so many linked quests in that zone.
As I mentioned, I like that they are trying to emphasize the story but if someone doesn't care about the story you can't
make
them care. Those of us that like the story will read the quests and appreciate the story, the rest will just auto-click through them like they have always done.
Edit: Got my zones confused.
