Why are the lords of water and earth friendly to us while the lords of wind and fire are raid bosses we have to fight? Aren't they all allies of the old gods and trying to destroy the world? Or did some just have a change of heart?(##RESPBREAK##)524##DELIM##Neutronimity##DELIM##

Neptulon isn't friendly; he's doing the enemy of my enemy thing to get rid of the naga. Therazane was the only one of the Elemental Lords who was not war like.....but still, if you don't earn her respect, she tells you to GTFO of her realm at the end of the Deepholme questing; that's why everyone is suppose to leave.

Ok the Therazane are just naturally more peaceful than the other elementals.
And Ragnaros is invading Azeroth so it's just natural we have to fight him.
Neptulon is not friendly but we can't let the Naga gain control over his domain so we help him. So he might even turn on us later and still be an enemy? Assault Azeroth just like Ragnaros did?
What about Al'akir? Why are we fighting him? We are attacking him in his domain, right? Why are we doing that?

Nept has been on Azeroth for several hundred years; the trolls made the mistake of attempting to take his power(sounds familiar), and he crushed one of the STV empires with a wave and a Kraken assault. He's chaotic neutral at best; he doesn't actively make war like the other two, but he's also not overtly fond of mortals either.
What about Al'akir? Why are we fighting him? We are attacking him in his domain, right? Why are we doing that?He joined with Deathwing, and his Djinn's are removing the flesh from the Tol'vir people and restoring them to their original state, and those stone ones are making war with our allies in Uldum.

Oh right ... I didn't realize those Djinns belong to Al'akir.
Are there are reasons why the elemental lords behave the way they do? Why does Al'akir ally with Deathwing? And why does Ragnaros assault Mount Hyjal?

Two words: Old Gods
The elemental lords (well 2/4 at least) and DW serve them

But why only 2/4 and not 4/4 or 0/4. What made 2 of them behave differently than the other 2?

Because Deathwing blew up her realm, so Therazane hates him; especially as she let him heal up there after the events of Day of the Dragon.
Neptulon just wants to have to fun, and ignore the War among the mortals....until they are stupid enough to piss him off, then he'll do his best to wipe them out.

Why are the Naga attacking Neptulon in the first place?
Couldn't they just ask him for help in the name of the Old Gods they serve?

Elemental lords (and lady, if Therazane can be called that...) are beings of pure chaos. We do not know why they do what they do; they simply do it. Furthermore, there are tensions between the elemental lords that we know of.
She often feels as though she is always at war with the other Elemental Lords: Al'Akir erodes her surface with winds, Neptulon beats his waves constantly upon her shores, and Ragnaros is a blazing furnace that churns at her fiery core.
We know also that Ragnaros and Neptulon are complete rivals (as fire and water always are -.-). Deathwing allied with Ragnaros and Al'akir (who, as said, is using his Djinn to reverse the curse of flesh on some of the tol'vir - it's never been explained how they do this). Therefore, the Tidehunter is not only at war with the naga - who are also on Team Deathwing, but also Raggy and Al.

Because Nept has been free from the Old Gods for centuries, and has no desire to return to that; he was/is the strongest of the Elemental Lords, but again, rarely stirs to fight the wars....until someone is stupid enough to piss him off.
Same as Therazane; she was perfectly happy being the Mistress of Deepholme, but once Deathwing started moving his forces into her realm, and began causing chaos and damage there, she saw it as a betrayal of her trust...and who knows what sweet nothing's Deathwing whispered into her ear holes; the guy is a charmer after all lol.

Why is Nept the strongest of them? After all he pretty much got his ass kicked hard by a bunch of fish-snakes, that didn't look so strong.

I did but the "why" isn't answered there either. It just states that he is. Is it just a random story element that never got explained any further or is there some deeper reasoning behind it?

Water scours earth, douses fire, and can disrupt the wind. He's also the strongest precisely because he doesn't play the games that the other Lords do. Also, he's the one who figured out how to return to the Physical realm without the aid of Summoners or Aspects going nuts.
