It's understandable if you want to avoid those people that are going willy-nilly with voting to get the Hardcore Critic achievement
^^^ this is why
but I feel like it detracts from the community-based datamining that made Wowhead so awesome in the first place.
A moderated amount detracts less than a non moderated amount. The damage that people would do by just going up and down pages hitting + or - with out reading is more than the good people like you not being able to rate more than 50 comments per day. I think its 50 anyways.
(I can't be the only one who likes to uprank/downrank quest comments as I'm going through quests on my alts, right?)
Nope, your probably not. Maybe the fine people at wowhead could ad a system where once someone has achieved the "hardcore critic" achievement, they would have their cap removed.
Anyways, the cap isn't too low. If you use all your votes every day, you'll get the Hardcore critic before you get the 100 days visited.
Cheers,
Hat

I don't think that's the only reason.
There were several requests to implement this feature to prevent mass downrating of one user (harassment).

Yes, achievements were not the only reason. Before this change was made an automated program could automatically downvote every comment on the site in a matter of hours.. Which is not good.
I'll paste what I said in another thread:
After 50 votes you can't vote at all for the remaining of the day. We ran numerous queries against historical data to come up with a good number, and we discovered that no users normally vote that much in a single day.
We did find, however, a user who voted over 1,000 times in a single day (this was before achievements were implemented). We want our users to vote responsibly giving at least a little thought to it, and I think capping the number of daily votes helps that.
This is probably a change we would have done regardless of achievements; achievements only made us realize of this potential problem.(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Koper##DELIM##
