So the election wheel spins around again, and the Daily Telegraph launches the first salvo. I'm not sure if it could be any more
partisan
?

What's a "mob"?
Edit: oh, are they not talking about that one guy? Kick the whole party out, or something? I assumed it had some weird significance in Australia when talking about a single person.

Basically, Australian politics is similar to US politics, except that we a) don't have a single President with veto powers; b) we have several members of the House and Senate who are not aligned to one of the two major parties; and c) we don't typically see members of parties crossing the floor to vote against their party position. As a result, party politics is significantly more important.
The Labor Party is the 'mob' in question who have controlled the House of Representatives for the last three years. The paper is calling on people to vote them out, essentially.
Speaking of Australian-isms, I found it amusing when I read the BBC's coverage:
Opposition leader Mr Abbott welcomed the election date, telling reporters "it's really about who is more fair dinkum",
using an Australian phrase to mean honesty or fairness
.
It never struck me that anyone reading an article on Australian politics wouldn't know what 'fair dinkum' meant. They must have a field day with Kevin Rudd's comments...(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##On a completely separate side note (as evidenced by the use of a box to differentiate instead), a 'mob' is the term used to describe a group of kangaroos (i.e. a pride of lions, a school of fish, a murder of crows, a mob of kangaroos)

He's gonna come out and publicly execute a boat person.
Then people will realise he's truly insane

Not sure if you guys have seen this:

Sad if this is the quality of candidates on either side of the political fence. I don't wish more guys like this on the Liberal Party, because I think it's precisely because of guys like him that there aren't enough sensible policies.

Oh god,
we've got another one
. Although she's One Nation, and we expect them to be pretty far off their rocker.

What happened to her anyway? Last I'd heard she was selling her house and emigrating to get away from the Asian invasion, and made the news because she specifically insisted on a 'must be Australian buyer' policy.

Queensland I assume, since that's where the majority of her support base used to be.
Did you hear what Channel Nine stepped into re: cricket?
