If there were a god, I wouldn't be so arrogant as to project human genders onto it.
Except He has told us ;)So you claim.
Adams claims She has told us.
Eastern "gods" are even more different.
I don't believe in divine revelation at all.

I normally wouldn't go in this thread because it's usually a minefield of rhetorical bull@#$%, but ExDementia's post was great :)

Actually, most eastern gods have very specific gender roles, within the pantheon and in their manifestation as well.

I've said it before:
If it helps, mentally add an "I believe" in front of almost anything I say in a religious debate.

Technically, God can refer to male or female, depending on how the term is used.

Would honestly make more sense for God to be a Her then a Him; women are better at creating then men are after all.
I'm pretty sure men have created a lot of great things.

And? When it comes down to it, women still do it better lol.

Capitalisation of the 'H' in regard to 'His works' is just a Christian biblical convention. The use of 'He' and 'Him' is considered a proper noun referring to God, not just a pronoun in the context of how we might use 'he' and 'him'.
It might be considered a proper noun by Christians. Like I pointed out with the link I provided, it's not really considered correct in standard grammar.
I still prefer to refer to said deity by one of its numerous proper names (Jehovah, Yahweh, El, Adonai). It just seems more appropriate.
Actually, most eastern gods have very specific gender roles, within the pantheon and in their manifestation as well.
Well, except for in Hinduism. Some of their gods change sex at will, or are hermaphroditic.
I haven't really studied it that deeply, but that probably explains why in the predecessor to Hinduism, the oldest records regarding marriage showed that there were eight different forms of it, heh.

Surely the question on everyone's mind now is what gender is the Flying Spaghetti Monster? (What's it hiding under all that noodle-y goodness?)

Tartonga - It's not that I think that "God will materialise" is a valid theory, it's that I think that "God will materialise" is valid evidence (that can be substantiated by the observation of God) towards the other theory that "God exists".
Anyway, I apologise, but I'm going to have to withdraw myself from this discussion. As you might have noticed by the lengthy gap in between somewhat haphazard replies, I just don't have the time these days to compose the essays I need to respond in a manner that the topic deserves. That goes for most discussions in Off-Topic - if it takes more than a couple of paragraphs to reply, I'm going to have to sit out, until things quieten down in my work / life.
Cheers, all.
Sorry to not have replied before, I have been busy with the university too. It was cool to debate with someone who likes debating as I do. After all, there are few other users like us that can handle it, specially on a controversial topic like this one. Either way, I hope your things go alright and I wish you well, dude.
Regards.

You know what bugs me?
Religious music.
I'm not talking about Christian Rock, though that can certainly bug me too.
I'm talking about truly beautiful song like
this
and
this
.
Both of those songs still bring a tear to my eye when I hear them. I really do understand the "I believe because it makes me feel good" phenomenon. I used to really believe. No matter how terrible I felt, I always felt better knowing that there was a metaphysical father spirit whose arms I could crawl into and curl up in. Someone who really did love me unconditionally and would never die and would take me to be with him forever when I died.
That's what hurt so much about losing my faith and accepting that I live in an unfair, uncaring world where I will
die
.
Now hearing these songs, they're still beautiful, and there's so much feeling in them, but it tears my heart every time I hear them.

I like religious music.
When your heart was filled with anger,
Did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother,
That you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way?
If you don't like religious music, don't click the link. This is my favorite hymn though, as I can use it in my life.
