Is it worth getting FF XIII? I can get it used pretty cheap and was wondering if it was any good.

It has its flaws, but I enjoyed it. The graphics are beautiful, as to be expected by Square Enix. However, the main problems I have with its gameplay are the following:
The game is very,
very
linear until about 20 hours in.
If your party leader (the only character that you control directly) dies, it's game over. It would be better, to me, if you could switch between which character you're playing as during combat and if you needed
all
of your party killed before it was game over.
With default controls, you can just press auto-attack and the game does everything for you. You can still manually select spells/abilities to use, however, over riding the automated combat.
That said, the main thing I enjoyed about the combat in FF13 was the paradigm system. Basically, you pre-stock what role your characters play (for example, healing spells are only available under the 'medic' paradigm, tanking spells under 'sentinel' etc) in combat, so you strategically work out how you want to play for different portions of the fight; offensively, defensively, or both at the same time.

Happy happy joy joy, collector's edition of FFXIII-2 ships tomorrow and should receive it on Thurs.
Edit: Oh and Squish, could you add in Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7, Dirge of Cerberus Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy XIII-2?

Mine shipped the other day according to Amazon, but I'm likely to get it significantly later than you. Even more so, considering that I'm guestimating it's going to arrive on the day after I head interstate for a week.

Added. Tried to be clever and move the options around so that they're in order, but it didn't work, sadly - the votes didn't move.

You didn't play FFX before FFX-2?

I really liked X-2. Honestly it was the last FF game I did enjoy >.<
However, while I did enjoy it and would stand up for it in any discussion where people deride it, its not a game among the entire series that I would tick and call it a "favourite".

What was your favorite then asakawa?

X is probably the one that I played the most and got the most enjoyment from but in these discussions I often like to champion IX. It gets easily overlooked but I loved it.

Heh, yeah, IX was the best of the PS1 games, and for being one of the final games made for it, it was easily the best looking and used all of the power of the Playstation....plus you know, Kuja was the only villain who actually succeed in blowing up a world, and he did while wearing a thong(Kefka only remade the world in his image).

No, a family member got it for me on christmas or my birthday and me (and them) being somewhat clueless when it comes to gaming had no idea it was a sequel. I have FFX and played maybe a quarter of the way through it but never finished it though that was much later after me beating FFX-2.

Well, got my copy of XIII-2 collectors edition today; gotta say, after what I got with Soul Calibur I'm a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I love that I have the full soundtrack, but the art book was sorta meh(especially compared to the one that came with 12's); oh well heh, at least I have it ^_^.

I did check my mailbox today, just in case :P
According to Amazon, it's currently in Carlstadt, NJ. That's roughly the closest point in the US to the geographically opposite point of the world to me. Only
eighteen thousand kilometers
to go.
Oops, that was the last scan point, on Feb 1st. Never mind, it's probably only fifteen thousand by now...(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

So think you'll get it before you have to leave for wherever it is your off to?

Not banking on it. Doesn't change much anyway - the only thing I'd be able to do is bring the CDs with me anyway - it's not as if I can lug the PS3 around on work flights, so I'm not going to play it until I get back home either way.
I actually picked up a suitcase from Amazon a couple of days ago - I reckon that's got a better chance of making it before I leave. Mind you, with only 6 business days to go, odds are that neither will arrive in time.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##
