Actually I did see an episode of "supersize vs superskinny" (by accident) and the skinny chick compensated her lack of food with gallons of coke and coffee. When they had to switch diets, she was trembling like a junky in rehab.
So yeah, caffeine is definitely a drug when overconsumed. But you can't take LSD and XTC casually like coffee or beer :p

Actually, you can. I can go out on a weekend and pop 5 ecstasy pills (which, if you aren't well-versed, is a pretty large amount that someone with no tolerance could OD on), and then not touch the stuff for 4 or more weeks.
LSD is not even remotely physically addictive. And whatever tolerance you do develop is removed after only 48 hours of abstinence.

LSD might not be physically addictive but theres not just 1 type of addiction. It is a mentally addictive drug just like Marijuana. And why do you say in your first sentence that "any tolerance developed is removed in 48hrs"? thats just a silly and untrue thing to say. And then you make the obvious by saying taking more and more will build your tolerance, well yeah thats how general tolerance building works. And recreational drugs are bad if you abuse them and are addicted to them, someone can completely go about their days and go home to unwind and do the drug of their choice and as long as they arent abusing said drug nobody will really know that they even take anything. I would recommend removing your first sentence because its just so silly and makes you look as if you have no idea what youre talking about.

My mother - who has experimented with various drugs over the course of her life (being a child of the 70s) - finds it very hard to believe that I've never smoked pot. I've never even smoked an entire cigarette*. I rarely drink. I take a few OTC drugs occasionally (when need arises - I've never abused an OTC drug). Caffeine is really the only 'monkey on my back'.
*When I was about five, my parents (both smokers at the time - dad's since quit) obliged me when I saw them smoking and said, "Gimme!" After about a minute of horrible, burning coughing and choking, I apparently made an unconscious decision to never smoke. :P

The bit in bold was supposed to be a quote actually from the previous poster. My musings are below that. Dont know why the quote thing didnt work.

I drink soda on a regular basis usually as a pick me up in the mornings though i only drink one or sometimes another one later in the day that's a lot of caffeine over time.
I will take 3 Motrin to kill the occasional headache.
I guess i should change my vote to include alcohol since i do have the occasional drink, though its something like a splash of vodka in cranberry juice.
I would like to try marijuana at least once just to experience the effect.

Tried weed for about 20 minutes and was laughing with my buddies for an hour. Apparently, it is wrong to be happy.
If I stop drinking alcohol for 2 weeks, I get the craving for it.

Tolerance diminishes after a few days without use.
In the last sentence under the "physical" subheading.
I'm sorry, sir, but your post is disjointed and makes little sense.
As for psychological addiction: what's your point? People can become psychologically addicted to WoW, or driving dangerously, or eating steak. The definition of "hard" drugs is drugs that cause
physical
dependency. End of story. There is no debate over whether a drug is hard or not. It either is, or it isn't.

Amyl nitrate, a.k.a. 'poppers'? It's a cheap high - assuming you don't have a heart condition.
Yeah, yeah, I know - even then it's a rarity for death to result, but really? Video head cleaner/nail polish?

It's mainly cold and flue stuff that contains caffiene and paracetomol and the caffiene is usually there as a pick-me-up.
i've got quite a lot of painkillers in my house.
checked them and none of them have caffiene though, we have ibuprofen, paracetamol, diclofenac, codeine.
