Caffeine, Nicotine, Alcohol, Cannabis
A lot, extremely rarely, frequently, four times so far.

I feel like Caffeine should go into Hard rather than soft.
I can go without booze for a couple days if I have to, but give me coffee lest I slay you.

I very rarely drink alcohol and only in very small amounts, I've never even got tipsy. I drink tea which contains tiny amounts of caffine, but never any high caffine drinks. I have also taken codeine and paracetomol for pains. But I have gone through 25 years of my life completely ignoring ciggarettes and cannabis and other illegal drugs, because I don't need them and I know they will damage my health. I am slighty hyperchondriac anyway. :P

I wouldn't consider cannabis a soft drug, especially since it's psychoactive and illegal.

It's classified medically, not legally. Alcohol and tobacco are both medically proven to be more directly dangerous.

Firstly, the fact that it's illegal in your country doesn't mean cannabis is a hard drug.
Secondly, almost all the drugs listed here are psychoactive drugs, even coffee.
Thirdly, cannabis unlike most of all the drugs listed here can be used therapeutically as a medication.
Fourthly, cannabis is a soft drug, because it is non-addictive and has fewer dangers associated with it's use.

It's already been said,
in the OP no less
, a hard drug is a drug that
causes physical dependency
. Cannabis doesn't, therefore it's a soft drug.
It has nothing to do with legality, whether or not it is psychoactive (
every
drug on this list is psychoactive, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered putting them in), or the
perceived
potency (since the potency of a drug is a very subjective thing).
You'll notice LSD is listed as soft, but I guarantee you more people will get mentally screwed up on LSD than they will on nicotine.

And so, as I think I mentioned earlier, it's just an issue of what's considered 'hard' or 'soft', as far as definitions go. I'd prefer to use 'hard' to refer to those which have negative side effects (due to a person's self-control), personally. Anything that would cause you to lose a substantial part of your mental or physical control when taking a 'standard' dose would be, in my mind, a 'hard' drug.

I have tried a cigarette once, but that would be it for smoking... i wonder if walking willingly into a bar that is full of smoke counts as willingly putting nicotine into my body, even though i really do not like the fact that there is smoke everywhere.
I have tasted a few types of alcohol mostly out of curiosity, and do not mind alcohol in candy, but i never drank more than a single glass in a long time period, and have never been drunk either.
I drink an average of 1,2-1,5 coffees per day though, and regularly drink a cola-type lemonade that has caffeine in it, so i am a regular soft drug user. I have never really had a feeling that i "need" a coffee though, i just kinda like to have a few routine habits and hold on to them.
Also voted for Ibuprofen, but i am not sure. I do not avoid a pill when i am sick, and i do not really remember what the pills i take contain.

Why do people call ket special k?
It makes it sound like a breakfast cereal.

People like giving things nicknames.
Again, Squish, there is no conjecture in these definitions. They are defined by medical scientists as to what has, so far, been proven about their effects. Any further decisions you make regarding the strength of the drug, well, that's up to you. Me personally, I find the effect of even 0.1 grams of marijuana to be overwhelming and uncomfortable, where I can handle 0.5 or more grams of speed, no problem. However that doesn't change the medically determined definition.
If we want to go into what drugs we feel have the greatest effect, we can. But it has no bearing on the hard or soft component of this discussion. Call them strong and weak if you like.
