As Rapture Comes...

The end is near, friends. The devout among us will be taken to the heavens while us heathens (which is
70.4%
of us apparently) will be left in peril. Earthquakes will shake the land, the streets will be strewn with bodies of the damned along with their destroyed vehicles, and the sun will turn as red as the blood dripping from our skulls. Then, on October 21st, the world will come to a foretold end.
Saturday, May 21st, may be your last day on this earth...
So can I have your guys' stuff since you won't be needing it? I will surely be left behind and could use a good stereo.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a jerk: I tracked down a general e-mail for Harold Camping's church and sent them a message:
"Why are so many members of your congregation
selling
their worldly goods? Do they think their debit cards will work in Heaven? If they truly believed, they would just give their stuff away, not sell it. Perhaps you should let those folks know that they've just excluded themselves from the Rapture by weakening their belief through hedging their bets!"
I just wanted to play with the spoiler tag. Cool!

Meh, whatever.

The funny thing is, is Harold Camping also predicted the end of the world back in 1994... guess if he was right or not.
I kind of feel bad for the people who are giving away all their stuff and quitting their jobs for this. One guy in New York spent his life savings on adverts around the city about this. Another couple (with 3 children) quit there jobs and gave away all their stuff in preparation for the 21st. Those poor kids.

Doomsday/Rapture prophecies have been around for thousands of years. I find it interesting that the Rapture is only referenced in the First Epistle of Paul to the Thessalonians, and not at all in Revelation, the actual book concerning the end-time.

Just my opinion?
The earliest mentions of Rapture probably came about from a religious scholar who saw the whole "144,000" thing in Judaism and decided it should be reflected in Christianity.

It's from trying to lift all the QQ over Cataclysm. It caused hernias.

16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

And this relates to the real world... how exactly?

The Rapture is (now) a semi-major/major element in the beginning of the Christian end-times, depending on which denominations/pastors you ask.
There's even been a best-selling book series about it.

I guess it's more of a heads-up. I mean, we get a few more thousand years and we all go to hell, right?
Post by

If I go to hell simply for not believing in a god, why would I want to in the first place?
That's why I don't concern myself with afterlifes: I die. Someting or other happens. I'll deal with it.

Actually, if you buy the T-Shirt, you soul will be saved. $18 bucks seems like a fair price for a ticket to heaven no?
