if you're going for threat, just use your dps trinkets. the
License to Slay
is far superior for threat. i don't know what else you have, but
Heart of Rage
would probably be BiS for a tank threat trinket.

Strength is an okay threat stat but doesn't quite compare to Expertise and Hit. For threat, these two would be your first priorities: expertise (to 26 or 6,5%) > hit (to 8%) = expertise to hardcap; 56 for bosses, but less for heroics (lvl 87 bosses). However, Strength is better than Crit and waaay better than Haste for threat. That trinket you linked is a pretty decent 'casual' tanking trinket in general with all the Mastery on it, and the on-demand Strength gets you a nice threat boost to start fights with. But as Marklartank pointed out, it entirely depends on what your other options are.

I'm swimming in BH tokens and was thinking of getting an
Impatience of Youth
and reforging the mastery to hit or expertise for a "threat set" for heroics. Anyone have any opinion on how useful the on use strength would be from a threat perspective?
This is actually an ok avoidance trinket for non magic fights (opposite to mirror). That str on use gives you roughly 400 parry rating 20/120. Dont ever reforge mastery to anything, its your best stat (block gives you rage).
It's actually a great avoidance trinket with a ~2% parry CD. Honestly, I should have gotten this thing a long time ago and used it instead of Tia's Grace. (And once agility becomes useless next patch, Tia's is going to be junk).

Ah, DPS trinkets... How I've missed you so from my (limited) time as a tank back in Wrath... That and DPS 1Handers, though the agility (/yay dodge) were crummy. Zakkar has a point about mastery, though. More blocks = more rage. Impatience of Youth is a surprisingly very, very viable trinket for a tank. The strength for damage and parry, the mastery for, well, more block! By that point though, you'll more than likely know your class (warrior), know the "rotation" (situational as Prot), and have the gear that'll allow you to take big hits without much worry of lacking some static dodge, parry, or ect. It'll also depend on the fights, but that's a given. I'd say go with it.

your best threat set would be your pve dps gear, shield (with spike) and onehander with landslide. After some not so extensive testing, this prot specc is the king of threat:

yes and noone in his right mind tanks in his pve dps gear... im guessing skum was trying to demonstrate how to squize the mos threat out of your character.
I do, all the time. I don't swap every single piece because my 372 tanking pieces have more strength on them than my 359 offspec DPS pieces, but I do swap in a lot of DPS gear.
Using DPS shoulders, cloak, belt, two rings, two trinkets, and gun, and using Mastery + Hit/Expertise in the Neck, Boot, and Shield slots, the only "real" tanking pieces I use are helm, chest, bracers, gloves, legs, and weapon, and it's because those are all heroic items that I don't have 372 offspec pieces for. And I still have 9.5% dodge, 13.25% parry, and 47% block, which is more than enough to tank an instance heroic.

The thing is, mastery is actually a pretty damn good threat stat because it gives you more rage. With high avoidance numbers rage gain can be spikey and block helps with that. Strength isnt such a great threat stat, but because it also offers avoidance, its actually quite good. As stated above, IoY is a pretty good trinket(and till next patch, the agi TB trink is BIS preraid) and also offers a nice bit of burst threat. However, keep in mind that warrior threat is already quite high. So while building a threat set can come in handy, its usually better to just use a few dps items in your tanking gear.
About wrath nostalgia: 2pt10+arp proc trinket+40%passive arp+tank in battle stance. Slow dps 1h, mix of pvpgear and dps 264 in the other slots. Good times...
