Let me start with a bit of background. My main spec is Restoration. I really enjoy healing, and I'm not terrible at it. I've healed on several different classes through Vanilla, TBC, and now Cata (skipped WotLK).
I'm currently healing the Troll Heroics without any problem (I've even carried a couple poorly geared tanks, and low DPS groups). I have all the confidence in the world to go in and heal any 10 or 25 man raids right now. But, I'm a casual non-raider and probably won't do any raiding outside of Barradin Hold until PUGs start doing full clears of the regular raids without many problems.
I also really enjoy BGs and Arenas, though I'm waiting for the next Season to gear him up, so I can get Vicious gear with Honor in short order, and try to get a serious team going.
My questions are about my off-spec. Having a solid DPS offspec is very important to me as I like some world PVP, dailys, and soloing old dungeons.
My current off-spec is Enhancement. I really enjoy it! I have some gear that I've gotten in heroics and troll heroics, and my average ilevel is alright. I've been playing Enhancement in regular heroics the past couple weeks. Here's my guy:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/burning-blade/handkerchief/advancedI know my gemming and enchanting aren't great, and I know I have a caster relic (I just made a Silver Inliad Leaf this morning but forgot to equip it). I'm getting the Hyjal boots tonight. I've been trying to learn more about Enhancement, and have read through Soccergenius's guide, and read through EJ. I've just become really frustrated. I did considerably better DPS when I was using a fast caster dagger main hand, and had Lava Burst in my priority rotation (before I read the guides). I was doing about 10.5k DPS. Now, with a proper melee main hand weapon and the proper priority rotation I'm doing 8.5-9k. Terrible DPS if I want to start doing melee in ZA/ZG.
What the heck am I doing that's so wrong? I would like to keep this offspec, but I feel terrible with it.
So that brings me to my next question(s). Should I just forget Enhancement for the time being, and use Elemental as my offspec for the next season? Will Elemental be viable next season with the new Lightning Bolt glyph?
I ask because I won't have to get a second set of gear to switch to DPS in a pinch. I know I would want proper Elemental gear, but switching to Elemental spec in my Resto PVP gear is better than switching to Enhancement spec in zero PVP gear. I like playing 2DPS in 2s, and would probably be plying with a Ret Pally, Feral Druid, Balance Druid, or non-frost Mage.
I don't really expect any answers about which spec to pick. I know it's my decision in the end and 'play whatever you like.' I'm more looking for advice to which would work better in my potential comps, and if it would be worth it to switch my DPS spec to Elemental for a while until I can build up better Enhancement PVP gear.
