Are priest really hard to heal with?

So first things first, here's my priest.
I can't get the link to work: my priest is Aakus on Twisting Nether
Disc is my offspec so you'll notice a couple of my pieces are shadow, because I don't have anything better for my disc set yet.
I love healing, I have a 85 Resto shaman, and a 85 Holy Pally that I heal in heroic 5 mans. But, I'm having a really really tough time healing on my priest. So I haven't even attempted heroic 5 mans on him yet.
I have just started healing on my priest. I got all his healing gear on offspec rolls in heroics running as shadow. I've probably only healed about 10 or so level 85 regular 5 mans so far. I have to be missing something. I run oom with 96k mana almost every other pull, and often I can't keep everyone alive. I've read every single healing guide new and old I could find, so I'm not sure what I'm missing.
Yes, quite a few times I've ran with groups that didn't have a clue about what not to stand in or a tank that only had 113k fully buffed...So, a lot of my runs are with clueless undergeared people. I'm in almost full heroic 5 man gear, healing regulars shouldn't be that hard should it? I mean I've healed these same undergeared/clueless groups on my shaman or paladin, and it isn't nearly has hard.
Basically, I keep shield on tank mending on cooldown, renew on dps to top them off, shield them if they are going to take a lot of damage, and prayer of healing whenever the group starts to take a lot of damage. Most of my cooldowns ie: barrier, desperation, etc are always on cooldown, because I need them all the time.
Thanks for reading my long rant, any suggestions would be appreciated. I know my gear isn't the greatest, but it certainly should be good enough for regular 5 mans right? Oh and just to say it, Lost City of Tol'vir is the place that is the hardest for me to heal. The other 5 mans aren't that bad. Maybe you guys know some secret about that place to help me out.

You've got low spirit, a few PvP pieces and no professions near max level. Discipline is quite gear dependent because a lot of your regen depends on your mana pool, which could use some growth. Work on your reputations and max engineering at the least for a wonderful helm which is practically BiS until heroic raids. On 346 ilvl+ pieces, you should really be using the best gems you can, they're not too expensive. Below submit, there's a button called 'Formatting Help', use that to work out how to link
your character

Disc is more gear dependant and shields cost alot of mana.
It ok to leave dps at 50% if ur low on mana, basicly u want to have rapture procs from every shield u cast on the tank.
icd is 12 sec, look for the rapture cooldown addon on curse. (forgot name and laptop is to slow atm to browse the web for u)
Macro Inner Focus with ur PoH and Gheal.
Drop Heal as main heal, start using Gheal + Inner Focus macro'd.
Also ur smite spec, Smite is more efficient healing than heal, unless u have fire hugging hippies on trash/boss.
U want to go with as much int as possible, the thing what helped me in the gearing process through heroics and this was december/januari and sad state of disc at that time.
Was using Smite/Penance/Gheal, gear more crit / mastery and get more int. Dont spam bubbles but get rapture each cd, specially now as they cost more mana than they did at start of the expansion. Also with Holy Fire u have a nice Fast Heal which i didnt had and the first heal of PoM (glyph) is a nice heal to have which i missed aswell.
Problem is with 5 mans, dps does take more damage as its through lfg tool and people tend to not care about aggro or reputation as they wont see u ever again. This makes Smite healing useless to keep tanks up on trash, shouldnt be a problem with bosses unless u get the fire hugging hippies. If u want to see if u can heal, ask guildies till u get comfy healing, atleast guildies does try to avoid damage, otherwise they be know as numpty in the guild.
Priests got a lot of tools to use, and i use them all cept for Heal and i rarely use renew. Priests arent hard to heal with imo, it used to be alot harder start of cataclysm :)
Dunno about ur valors but the valor trinket is pretty nice.
Once u replaced ur blue pvp items, u get more usefull secondary stats.
Now that i got geared, its just a matter of getting the highest dps possible in heroics, atonement healing ftw :)

Thanks for the suggestion laalipop. That makes sense. I'm just using a cookie cutter build, and haven't really looked at it from the standpoint that maybe my gear isn't appropriate for my talent build.
Yes, I'm wearing some pvp pieces still. I haven't really spent much energy gearing my healing spec. Like I said it is an offspec. And yeah, I realize my spirit is low too, I'm still working on that. I read somewhere that Disc was less gear dependent then Holy, is that still the case? Or would I be better trying Holy?
I appreciate the feedback so far, but I need to emphasize more that I haven't started healing 5 man heroics yet. I'm having a hard time healing normals. But my gearscore is well above normal level. I'm currently at iLVL 344. So, I can't really figure out why I'm having so many issues with healing normals.
My pally and shaman are sitting slightly higher in terms of gear score and normals are a breeze for them, and most heroics aren't too hard either. I just feel so underpowered on my priest when there is a lot of damage going around.

Ignore gear score for the most part, stats are what matter. Holy is less gear dependent than Discipline, particularly before full 346+ gear, because of the 80% combat regen in part. Even ilvl 333 items are more superior to your current PvP items, simply because of the presence of more useful stats. Resilience is completely useless in PvE, and subtracts from what could be used in an item budget by something more useful such as mastery, crit or haste.
