How much HPS you do depends on how much damage the tank takes in the first place... If you're not being forced into Greater Heals and you constantly overheal, even when trying to avoid it, chances are the heals aren't
needed
, and there really isn't a problem at all. Looking at the patch notes, Disc didn't change
at all
, so all you're experiencing is just different fights than what you're used to.

HPS is equally as important as DPS and TPS. Just not in the way you're thinking. Overall HPS has very little bearing on the outcome of a fight. What you need to care about is HPS over a short time, and knowing how much of it you need to not let anyone die. This is something you have to get a feel for in a raid scenario, and it's not something that happens instantly.

My Disco is a little rusty these days, but I did get into a quick trash run in FL (just healing for conveniences sake). And as people have said, what you are assigned to can cause your HPS to fluctuate. I would say on the subject of smite healing that many people forget that it has an 18 sec duration and only a 30 second CD...meaning it should be up more often than not. Weaving Holy Fires and possibly Borrowed time hasted Smites to maximize Arch's uptime will go a long way to increasing both your throughput and mana availability. Timing these heals and knowing when it is 'safe' to do so is something that is important to master if you find yourself Atonement healing often.
Other points would be to keep your Grace stacks on the tanks up, which can be a pain when managing multiple tanks. Personally I prefer to Penance the MT and toss a heal/GHeal on the other to maintain stacks. Also, on the subject of Grace stacks; the healing bonus is quite substantial so tossing a renew on the tanks (mine are ticking for 5.5-7K in a raid setting on a 5 tick/2.4 sec interval) can be an efficient and moderately powerful boost to your overall healing. Without grace tho, Renew is simply to weak to bother with as Disc, so don't worry about having to watch a ton of HoT's, leave that to the druids :)
As for raid healing, popping Archangel, adding Power Infusion and casting Prayer of Healing provides some excellent healing throughput. It won't be hard for you to burst 16K+ HPS if you use this combination. Remember to PoM on CD. Consider picking up the Prayer of Healing Glyph, while the PW:Barrier glyph can be nice for certain fights, the overall boost to your PoH (a flat 20%) is very substantial, DOUBLY so if you find yourself assigned to raid heals.

Why would you be worried about your hps on trash?
Is the tank dead?
Y: You failed and probably should've been using GH rather than relying on Atonement heals.
N: Grats move onto the the boss.
Case in point, if the trash is dead and you did your job there really isn't anything to be concerned about.
