1) Yes, warriors are awesome. My main has been a warrior tank for about four years now. Originally had a rogue that I raided with up through SSC, then started over on my Warrior on a new server about halfway through TBC.
2) I'm not going to link a bunch of builds. Since you are stuck in the Prot tree until level 69, it's pretty straight forward. From the top down, I would suggest skipping:
-Incite (you really won't be using Heroic Strike much while leveling),
-Impending Victory (when soloing you'll get the full Victory Rush, and things will die so quickly that you won't have much <25% time),
-Vigilance (when leveling and instancing you should be a threat machine and dominating meters, there should be no need to taunt), and
-Safeguard (it's a PvP talent or for high end fancy raiders using it for mini CDs, useless to most people).
The Prot tree has 39 total talent points available, and the above exclusion list is 8 talent points worth. That leaves 31 talent points... i.e. you fill everything else.
Once you are level 69 and fill all that out, switch to Arms tree and get Blitz and War Academy, then Deep Wounds, and finally 2/2 Cruelty in Fury.
Then once you are max level you can keep that build for running heroics, or switch Blitz --to--> Field Dressing and ConcBlow + Gag Order --to--> Incite, making a raiding build.

Heroic Strike was one of my most used abilities while tanking from 15 to 24(Cleave)/39(Devastate). Simply because there isn't much else to use all that rage you gain while tanking instances at that level.
I skipped Toughness until level 39, because more damage was more important.

Warriors are most definately worth the time and energy. They may not be the "easiest" class to level or raid as, but man, do they pack a punch and can take a hit!
I'd stick with what Porcell said, but as Billet mentioned, early on, damage -> threat is very important, at least with AoE/group threat (Ex. Thunder Clap, Cleave, ect). I'd still skip Incite since you'll be spamming TC/Cleave so much that you wont really need to dump it all on a single target ability, but I'll leave the choice up to you. Since they stream-lined everything, you don't have a hell of alot of choices. It's not like back in Wrath where you had 71 talent points (though it was fun to fool around with those trees). Keep an eye out for posts similar to a question you may have in order to avoid reposting the same question. Best of luck to ya.

And if you were wondering about endgame viability, I'm a machine in heroics, and my 25 man raid group uses two warrior tanks for everything. On the occasion we have a feral druid (MTs heroic Maloriak) and an offspec DK (kiting adds on Wind Council or worms on Magmaw) if the situation warrants it. So far in Firelands, prot warriors are prime to tank all fights, and our mobility and abilities are actually a boon in many of them (adds on Beth'alic, kiting on Shannox, adds on Rhyolith, stuns/interrupts on Alyrazor and Rag).

Prot Warriors; Epic! :0
The only other class that can keep up with our mobility
and
play a tank are druids. I'm not sure if they can take a hit like Prot Warriors, but they are definitely great on aggro both in group and single target situations. I think...
