For your first character I would highly recommend DPS. It's easier to learn how to play and people won't get as mad at you if you mess up :)
But at the same time I would also recommend a DPS class that has a tanking or healing spec that you could try out once you're more comfortable with the game.

A) An easy class would be a hunter, a Paladin, or possibly an Arms Spec Warrior. Once you get a level 55, you'll have access to a Death Knight as well.
B) Tank: Meat shield, you take hits, keep the others alive; four currently in game: Protection Warriors, Protection Paladins, Bear spec'ed Druids and Blood Death Knights.
Healers are the ones who keep everyone alive; currently four of them as well: Priests, who have two specs for it: Holy and Discipline, Holy Paladins, Restoration Shamans, and Restoration Druids(Tree spec'ed).
All 10 classes can DPS, and most of them have multiple trees for it: Hunters have three, Warlocks have three, Mages have three, Rogues have three, Paladins have Ret spec, Warriors have Arms and Fury, Shamans have Elemental(caster) and Enhancement(Melee), Druids have Balance(Moonkin form) and Feral Cat spec, Priests have Shadow, Death Knights have Frost and Unholy spec. DPS is the damage group.

Certain healers have different styles of healing. Discipline Priests focus on shields that absorb damage, while Holy Paladins focus on large heals that can spread to another target while building up three charges of Holy Power, which can be used for another heal, etc.
Note: I haven't Paladin healed since Wrath, so I have no idea how it's changed.

I suggest going warlock. When you reach level 10 and select your talent tree, do not go affliction. Affliction is where warlocks get complicated in my opinion. Try demonology instead. Out of all the classes I have leveled, warlocks are the easiest and also a lot of fun. When it comes to doing dungeons, your role is less vital than a lot of other classes because you don't have to worry about things like interrupts and CC (crowd control.) Though sometimes groups will depend on you to fear targets or banish elementals, it's not so common. You usually just sit back and do damage.
Good luck!
