Using Wind Shear

I have recently started levelling a shaman and when I try to use Wind Shear to interrupt a caster, it seems to have no effect. Can it be used at any time during casting a spell or must you wait to just before the end?

make a stopcast macro for it

Some spellcasts by NPCs also have interrupt immunity. That could be it.

Or it could be lags. =D
but anyhow a safe-fail macro for you ;
/stopcasting
/cast Wind Shear

It's funny... I was sitting here trying to figure out why you would need a /stopcasting in your Wind Shear macro.
Apparently, I only think about Shaman as Enhancement... *shrugs*
I find it's best to interrupt the casts at about the 1/2 way point. Any later, and you're risking a bit of lag for a missed cast.

In my opinion both purge and windshear are kind of worthless. I mean ya interrupt, great, but they back to casting afterwards. Should really cause a silence as well tbh. And purge, you have to spam, just to get rid of a beneficial buff....which actually wastes alot of mana eventually, rotating with winshear helps, but not much.

5-6sec interrupt (depending on Reverb talent) with the accompanying school lockout that happens when you get them mid-cast? And I really don't see Purge being that expensive. Especially not like on my Mage.

Wind Shear
is only beneficial in that it will stop the current cast and basically cause an extra GCD. Meaning they can cast again when you have 3-4 seconds left on the
Wind Shear
cooldown. So using just
Wind Shear
you can essentially lock someone/NPC out of a magic school for 33-40% of the entire time you are fighting them. Mixed with
you can get around 6-8 seconds of no incoming damage from a casting source, which can sometimes be enough to ensure victory :D
Also, if you need to watch Target A but need to deeps Target B, you can make Target A your focus via hotkeys or macro, and have your
Wind Shear
macro as /stopcasting
/use Wind Shear
/use Wind Shear
In this way, if you have a hostile target as your focus, you will attempt to
Wind Shear
the focus target, and if you have no focus or the focus is a friendly target, you will attempt to
Wind Shear
your normal target.
