Interest
but most likely will Hunter vs. Wild be a "safe bet". Healers tend to complain that hunters drop so fast in health to AoE damage anyways.
If only Surv/Hunters has self healing...or if Deterrence worked.

Depends on the fight, CA can be very useful in a fight like Baleroc - but then it completely underperforms in a fight like that against MM anyway. On a fight like Rhyolith, especially on H where you're doing a lot of target switching going 2/2 in Serpent Spread can actually be quite nice and CA is not very useful.

I don't think dropping One With Nature is a good idea under any circumstance. 600 AP is a ton of DPS and it's DPS that you will have for the entirety of a fight, not just the first 10%.
As mentioned above, the value of CA isn't great on many of the boss fights in FL. Shannox, Beth, Rhyo, and Alys are all fights where you aren't likely to be engaging the boss until it's out of CA range. While it would be useful for Baleroc and Staghelm, SV just isn't going to compete with MM DPS-wise on a burn fight like that.
I use SV for killing trash and maybe on aoe-heavy fights.
As a side note, I handle the Spiderling adds on Beth alone for my guild and MM easily surpasses SV for that role in terms of both utility and DPS.
I typically use
this spec.
I used to go further into the SV tree for Entrapment, but quickly found that it wasn't even necessary.
The reason this is so effective is b/c you get all of the killing blows on the adds. Once the first add dies (which doesn't take long) you can just start spamming MS and never run out of focus. The Spiderlings usually die fast enough that i have time to help out with the Drones or Spinners.
Concussive Barrage alone is usually sufficient to keep the Spiderlings slowed, and in the case of emergency you still have your frost trap as backup.
Then once you get to the burn phase, you will have 1:10 under dynamic haste effects (40 seconds of BL/Hero and 30 seconds of RF) where you can do serious damage with AiS.
Not trying to sway you from SV, but offering an example of where MM can more than hold it's own in a heavy AOE setting.
OTOH I have considered using SV on Rhyolith. Can anyone that has used both on this fight give some feedback on this?

Nope, the fragments do not proc Rapid Killing. Most of the advantages of MM are completely negated on that fight which is why I've considered giving SV a go.

Thanks, everyone. This is exactly what I was looking for: valid, logical support for ditching CA. Now the only thing I'm wondering about is whether or not I should switch over to MM once I get more FL/T12 due to Blizzard rigging the gear to cater towards MM over Surv like they did with ToC/ICC gear in Wrath if I'm not mistaken.
MM has been superior the entire expansion. Playing Survival at this point is only worth it if you need the buff, or if you like seeing big numbers on H Halfus. Pretty much every other fight MM will come out on top.
Concussive Barrage alone is usually sufficient to keep the Spiderlings slowed, and in the case of emergency you still have your frost trap as backup.
Pro-tip: The Spiderlings spawn every 25 seconds or so. You can get a trap down and don't ever need to spec into Concussive Barrage..
Also slightly baffled as to the no CA. CA is too good to pass up, even if it only lasts 10%. Unless this is a spec you only use for Bel, which I also find baffling.

I do only use it for Beth, and CA would have pretty much no effect at all.
Why is that baffling? I have to have something for an off-spec and my main spec covers everything else fine.

I wasn't saying CA was useful for the fight.
And I don't know, I've just never had a separate raid spec specifically for such a trivial fight. I just thought it was odd. Then again I hate respecing in general.
