Hey everyone. I always wanted to get into tanking and tried a Druid but got bored of it. I did a paladin to 70 and just felt wrong.
I tried the DK and loved the dps and the runes idea.
Plus the fact that sadly a boatload of DKs I come across in pugs are horrible horrible tanks. So I want to figure out whats the deal and get good at it
Heres my current equip
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/magtheridon/Sinderela/simpleSome is a mix of my dps im working on getting replacements for, but I think I'm high enough to at least start tanking heroic randoms and maybe some 10 regular raids.
I saw a FL trash run with a DK in blues. If he can do it, I'm sure I can.
Just a little unsure on gemming. I have low stam so I gemmed a lot of that for mix stam/mastery. I know stamina isnt as critical but I think a tank with less than 140k hp is also a bit awkward. Im sure buffs would boost that, but meantime, thats how it is.
I keep grabbing DPS gear since Im more comfortable with that, but feel once I can tank, I can use VP and what not for the tank gear, and as tanking, OS roll for the dps.

Hmmm, I stopped giving advice to people a long time ago, most do NOT want to learn, they want an Instant solution (just add water type of thing ). But it is HERE that I learned the basics, so Pay back time I guess for all the support I was given when I started my DK.
1- You have to commit ! Tank or DPS. A TANK has NO DPS spec ! If he has...then he's no Tank.
2- Gear is only one vector in a complicated equation. I leveled to 84 on my old ICC gear did my first solo till the first Boss on an Ini ...i think the one under water at 83 (adds killed my ass).
DO NOT forget that DK is an HERO class, it's like a swiss knife, WoW, Jack of all trades. Not good at anything, but Exels in the combination of his capabilities.
With this in mind, I use lots of different combinations of gear for a specific purpose. DPS shoulders, and hands to balance my Dps sometimes.
3- Take a Common Spec for tanking, and use it for a while, eventually you will start noticing the short comings. No point in trying to use a "top" spec that you will NOT be able to explore to it's potential, leaving you under par.(and causing wipes 'till birds grow teeth)
Concerning the spec, it should be one adapted to heroics, large groups of mobs need AoE from Blood Boil etc.
4- Of course youre unsure about gemming, and armor, and ..and.. Forget that, take what you got and tank a few heros, you will "see the Light"
5- Buy a Family Pack of Cotton wool and stuff your hears with it. In Heroics ..its always the Tanks or Heal fault. so go with the flow and pay no heed, concentrate on your tanking and not on the not so bright DPS that steels your aggro, runs away from you, then dies...weird ain't it?
5-TANK TRAINING ! ! = if it's on the ground or coming your way WTF you still there for? MOVEMENT is the Key to successfully tank, and position a Boss without turning your back to it. That tends to land BIG damage on your ass, you can't parry or dodge from the back. SO go train here with a live one
Edemantus without a quest you have to avoid all attacks, great for training movement and doing melee Dps at the same time.
As for gemming. THAT is something that it is not easily done there are tools that can help you with that, and reforging etc, because it all depends on your Gear, Skill, Skill, Skill, Spec, Skill and Skill.
Not sure if that helps, but i hope so.
