i would say go transmute as it is more or less a constant flow of income each day with either truegold or living elements or raw meta gems or raw rare gems.
Elixier spec may be good as well if you dont have much competition for the flasks and if you can get the herbs/volatiles cheap enough.
Potion spec is hit and miss because you may sell a ton one day with people stocking up for the week and not sell any the rest of the week.

Personally i have 4 characters with transmutation mastery, and i am happy with the proc chance of making 4x truegold each day.

My opinion......transmute. But you have to account for ather things before you choose. Your playstyle, motivation, and your server economy.
For me, I specced Elixer for a short time, until our guild finished the cauldron achievement, and by that time, we had so many flasks, that we were well stocked. After that, I swapped to Transmute for the extra gold from gems, and the occasional big winner...a free Truegold.
On my server, Flasks and Potions just dont sell for much, and worse, they dont sell that often. With so little pugging, and guilds dropping cauldrons, the market is pretty dry.

Transmute is a good money-maker.
I've been lucky to proc up to 5 x Truegold recently, and with Inferno Rubies always selling high and the CD has been removed, you can make some nice gold.

Gemtransmutes have a very low proc chance (for me, luck will vary), with the exception of Shadowspirit Diamonds, which seem to like me. When making a stack (20 in 10 transmutes), I usually end up with 6-7 extra. Last sunday, I got 11! extra and when I transmuted Truegold a little later, I got a 5x! I had even considered selling that CD as someone was looking for a transmutationmaster on /Trade, so I was a happy camper. Ofc, the week before was abysmal when it came to procs, so it all evens out over time.
RNG is Random. Random is RNG. It's what makes Alchemy fun and frustrating all at the same time.

Transmute = Big demand and steady flow of money.
Elixir = Fair source of money and usually always in demand.
Potion = Not so much in demand, but if you focus on the potions that people are going after the most, you'll do fine. It all depends on how the flow of the e-economy is going.
Pay attention and make bank!

How does one switch masteries? I've tried to go to the Alch trainers and nothing, nor did the original quest giver seem to be able to offer anything. :) Thanks in advance for your help!
You go to the mastery trainer, talk to them and say you want to unlearn the mastery/ It costs 150g. Then go to the mastery trainer you want and get that. (I did it a couple weeks ago so I know it still works)

All three sound great, but I honestly can't decide. I'm new to Alchemy, first time doing it, and each one sounds worthwhile but its come down to which one to choose. I know I can switch at any time, but I'm curious what personal perspectives Alchemists out there could give on which they like (or don't like) and why.
Thanks!
If you want to go for transmute master, my advice is to first go for potion master and then 'respec' for 150g. This will save you a lot of money for the 4 Primal Might needed for the transmute mastery.

I regularly switch between elixir and transmute spec. What I do is keep transmute spec as a normal truegold/elements cooldown (as well as inferno ruby) for every day and every once in a while when I've accumulated a big stock of herbs/volatile lives I switch to elixir and make it all in one shot then switch back until next time.

go potion mastery. i was transmute master for 3 weeks and got only 1 2x truegold transmute, and carnalian prices are so high because of shortage of greater essence that inferno transmutes aren't worthwhile.
you can still do the daily living elemental transmute and make ~200g a day. i sell a lot of potions and i can see a clear 20% proc because i make 100 of them at a time. potions sell for more than twice the cost of mats anyway, so the procs are butter on the bacon.

I've got Alchemy on two characters. One is potion mastery and crafts every potion I need, my main is a transmute master. I'll soon be getting a third Alchemist, which I'll make into another transmute master. Elixir is my least favorite one and having two potion masters makes no sense.
Elixir master just seems pointless to have, on my realm at least. The ingredients sell for more than a finished flask and I don't need any for personal use as I can use 4h guild cauldron flasks (and I'll take a 2nd flask along with everyone else in case someone switches specs and for refreshing it after the raid).
