With Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword soon to be released, I thought it would be nice to make a consolidated discussion thread for the upcoming game.
The game was released early to some, giving them the chance to review it for the rest of us, the masses. So far, the
reception
has been
extremely good
, matching
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
in aggregate metascore.
Do you have the game on pre-order already? What do you think will be good about the game? What do you think will be bad about the game?
Personally, I already have the game on pre-order, and I see a lot of good coming out of it such as:
Link actually having a romantic relationship to Zelda for a start, and flight to travel is something the LoZ series has not really explored. The graphics also look pretty solid, overall
But there are some negative aspects I foresee:
The mandatory motion controls seem like a PITA, for instance, as they greatly restrict say, a handicapped person, from playing the game.
I'd love to hear what you guys think below. Will this game truly be the greatest Zelda game of all time? Only fate and the masses will decide.

I'm likely to recieve a lot of flak for this comment but whatever:
I've never been a fan of zelda (or other nintendo characters like mario, donkey kong, ect) and probably never will.
And no I wont go down the road of "its childish" since I like plenty of other stuff that can be classified as such, I cant express why, I simply dont like them.

Link's face... is... there's something wrong with his face
Oh god, that's actually kinda true, unfortunately.
made Skyward Sword look more cartoony
I guess I can understand where that argument in particular comes from. It's not like a lot of people liked WW's cell-shading either, and this is pretty much a mix of WW and TP's graphics.

Dosnt look as good as Twilight Princess tbh. And no Zelda game will ever be as good as OOT in my eyes. Still it looks worth a peak... In a few weeks when I finaly tear myself away from Skyrim and shower...

I think the cartoon like graphics actually fit with WW/Toon Link's world, especially because of Toon Link's design and such. Plus I understand how cartoony the graphics look in things like OoT and Majora's Mask because of the limitations back when those games were made... it's just that nowadays, combining that style with TP models looks like they actually downgraded.
That's true, but then again, this IS the Wii.
Can't expect much, right? =)

I'm gonna power game the !@#$ out of it. I wanna know what happens in this game, it is the DIRECT PREQUEL to Ocarina of Time and goes as far as describing how the MASTER SWORD WAS MADE.
I'll review it, with lots of spoiler tagging.
Edit: I might even do a before/after pic. This is going to be some good exercise...even taking Thanksgiving gorging into account.

I absolutely love the Zelda series, but I was not a fan of TP and I am worried about its direction. I will play this during Christmas (no time with work and Skyrim and Dota 2 beta) because it's largely why I bought a Wii, but I am worried about the motion plus and the motion in general because I'm not a fan of the infamous "wii waggle."

Heh, that's why I got Twilight Princess for my Gamecube instead of a Wii. As for this game...meh; not really interested, and as ever Zelda game is touted as the 'Greatest Zelda Game to Date!' really don't buy the hyperbole either.

I played TP on my gamecube as well. I actualy sold my Wii a year back, been thinking of getting a new one for this though. the thing about Link and Zelda having an actual romance concerns me. Im all for evolution in games, but Nintendo somehow seems sacred... I mean we all saw what changing things up did for Metroid other M...

From what I hear, it's actually practically rock solid for this game, although it CAN get gimmicky.
I wish they would at least give us the option to use conventional controls, in case you break your arms or something.

The only problems I can think of, so far, is you can't use the Classic Controller, and the stamina meter. Everything else seems stunning, but it's still too early for me to say anything else.

I actually kinda like the concept of the Stamina meter. Beats roll spamming and it really makes you have to use actions, such as attacking or defending, more carefully.
Something worth noting, btw, is that apparently Link starts with more hearts this time around (or so I hear)

I can understand why some people would like it. Me, I don't want to think too much, when I game.
As for what you mentioned, I can confirm that it's true.

Yeah. I saw something about Link...
starting with 6 hearts instead of 3 from a news article. Game must be pretty damn difficult, especially considering the first major boss is the villain of the game, IIRC.
WARNING: EXTREME SPOILERS. THIS IS A PLAYTHROUGH VIDEO OF THE EARLY PARTS OF THE GAME.
(This also confirms Link starts with 6 hearts)

I forgot to mention that I don't really like the fact that your shield will break, if hit too many times; however, you can upgrade it, so that's a fair trade-off, I suppose.

I guess one could argue it's to prevent people from abusing the shield. I could see it happening in this game.

I find the shield use to be far more reactive (it's your nunchuk) and considering fights will be more like a duel, you'll find yourself using your shield a LOT.
Putting durability in makes you have to get creative (dodging, etc) as opposed to just putting up your shield every time. It's similar to how sword-handling works, where you can't just recklessly slash the enemy to win.

Wasn't shield breaking also possible in OOT with the Deku Shield?
And yeah, Shields are kind of OP. Instead of having them break, I think they should make it kind of like how the Gannondorf fight in Wind Waker went... You could try blow a sword blow with it, but if you just sat there with your shield up he'd shin kick you and slice you to pieces.
