I typically prefer being a ranged player. Whether that is a mage, or a hunter. I like to be far away from the action and doing some damage. :) Don't like getting beat up. :)
I always play either rogue or archer first.
It varies for me. If the magic system is really good, I'll play a caster; usually something a little more on the 'Dark Side', that uses demonic or mind-manipulating magic. If I don't like the magic system, I play a thief type and prowl the rooftops for great injustice. :D
I normally play a ranged class. It just always seemed to make the most sense to be able to hit your opponent before they could hit you. I also like some more survivability though so the hunter type classes are where I normally fall in.
Every time i start a new RPG I tend to find myself drifting toward the healing side side. Don't know what there is about a healer, but they are simply the most challenging classes to level and to play. Of course, if the game dosen't offer a healing class (for some extremely odd reason), then I tend to go for the hunter/ranger type.

I tend to usual play more of a caster type of class in RPG's. But now I've been trying to play more of melee type of classes just to "spice" things up.
Preferably mages. Can't wait to see how the mage-fighter destinies are going to work.
In mmo's, I usually play a healer class but in single player rpgs I tend to lean towards stealthy classes. They just seem more fun, no idea why :p
RAnged dps, mele and healer, dont like mages xD
Ranger for me. I love bows, they look and feel awesome (most of time).
