The idea was to get a bit of crit as well as mana regeneration as it is bit of a problem with the arcane spec.
Sub-question would be: if I go for gear without spirit, I guess the talent and glyph are useless so what do I get instead. :)
read what nick said a little closer..
All of our gear has spirit,
and you should get enough raid buff.
He didn't say completely avoid gear that has spirit on it, because that would be nigh impossible to do.
What he meant was that when you are gemming or enchanting, spirit is not something to gem for... ever.. your gear will have enough for you to make do with.
arcane is a mana heavy tree.. there's no way around that, it's simply designed that way.. That's why you have the 2 minute evocation and such to make your mana go more efficiently, and honestly since the changes in patch 3.2, i haven't had any issues making my rotation work quite well.. with 3.2.2 goes live, it will be even less of an issue, because they are making the stacks of ABlast cost less.
tl;dr, stick with that talent and glyph.. there's a reason it's cookie cutter.

MageCorruption is a tad overzealous in his praise. I have been wrong before, and if you read the forums more, it becomes painfully obvious. :)
Theorycrafts show that if you want to put points into SoTM, 1 point is generally enough, as their benefits suffer a diminishing return.
As for where to put the points, you basically have 3 options:
Arcane Stability: 3 points into in, plus Concentration Aura by any pally in your raid would guarantee uninterrupted casting by your spells. It's something to keep in mind if you find your spells constantly pushbacked by raid damage
Magic Attunement: This offers more range, and also offers more benefits if you're ever called to Amplify the tank
Incanter's Absorption: This does work with Power Word: Shield, so if you're in a battle with heavy raid damage, this could boost your sp by over 600 every now and then. Note, that this also works with glyphed Fire and Frost Ward in certain fights.
The downside is that in certain fights, (Patchwerk), this is all but useless.

If Nickseng says it, it is correct. If he says it's raining horses you better not go outside
i friggin laughed again at this.. geez Mage.. did someone finally remove that stick from your arse? you were helpful in that post, and not condescending at all.. i'm impressed.

i've always been really confused about the idea of a DR on something that's not crowd-control related. how can your spirit suffer from diminishing returns?
Okay so I just started to build a pre-raid gear / template.
Get rid of anything "gladiator" and anything "titan-forged".. Replace them with gear you get from conquest emblems.
Chest piece is a decent one, but you can easily farm heroics for.. two days and get
t8.5 robe
which is infinitely superior. abyssal rune isn't what i would call a spectacular trinket for arcane, personally, convert some badges back to heroism and get
sundial of the exiled
... it's still rated like in the top 5 trinkets for arcane by Rawr.
you're REALLY ambitious trying to get those furious gladiator's pieces, as they require you to do arenas.. granted not a LARGE amount, but still quite a bit.. Personally, to replace the necklace and ring, I would use
titanium spellshock necklace
and
titanium spellshock ring
. For your bracers, go with
azure cloth bindings
out of H-VH until you get enough badges to convert back to Emblem of Valor, and get the bracers there. Or, if you can afford it, see if someone is selling
combustion bracers
on the AH.

Probably by the fact that the first point increases by 4%, but the rest only by 3% :)

Thank you all for those tips, they're really helpful! :)
Shame on me I didn't read the emblem section of last patch notes (that's almost too much from Blizzard but I won't complain ^^).
So here is the updated
profile
, anything to improve?
it looks tons better. The only downside i see is that you are a bit under hit cap. since you're alliance, you can pretty much bank on a draenei being in the group, so you want to get to 11%, which is only like 30-some more points than you are at now, take a couple of the yellow gems and hit rating gems in them until you get what you need.
however
if you're guaranteed to raid with a boomkin or shadow priest, don't fool with it, cause you're fine then :)
Next thing... your gemming.. My biggest piece of advice...
IGNORE THE SOCKET BONUSES
. That's true about 85% of the time. more often than not, it's better to just gem for straight spell power. I notice you have a couple of green gems in to keep your meta activated. I would suggest using
purified dreadstone
instead of the green ones because they're overall, better gems for your dps. more spell power, and more spirit (which equals more mana as well as more crit).
Keep it up :D your template is coming along quite nicely.

I was under the impression that wowhead profiler wasn't taking into account
Arcane Focus
talent.
Can anyone confirm?
In which case I would already be over the 17% cap, wouldn't I? (I rarely raid with a boomkin or spriest tbh)
About the gems, I'm not sure to understand what you mean about socket bonuses. (probably a language issue on my side :o)
Could you be more specific?
I replaced
Intricate Eye of Zul
gems as suggested, thanks for the advise! :D
wowhead profiler, just like the character sheet, DOESN'T take arcane focus and precision into account... bah, i'm sorry, i was looking at ranged/melee hit and not spell hit.. apologies.
anyway, as far as socket bonuses go.. for instance, take the
t8.5 robe
i suggested in my earlier post. If you put a blue and yellow socket into that gem, then you get +6 crit rating. the +6 crit rating is the socket bonus for that particular piece. By and large, most gear has worthless socket bonuses, and you would be generally better served putting pure spell power gems into any socket, except the two blue gems for your meta gem. You have quite a bit of +20 haste gems in your gear, and while haste IS good for arcane, it is more often better to gem for pure spell power.

I learned something new today, thanks to you! (didn't know that I had to match the socket color to get the socket bonus)
About the haste gems, I guess you were thinking abouht replacing them with
Reckless Ametrine
.
To be honest I'm a bit confused with spellpower and haste weights, some guides say haste > spellpower and others spellpower > haste (for arcane mages).
hrm... actually, after checking it out on rawr, with your desired gear set, it shows
luminous ametrine
as the top gem in a lot of spots.
this
is how I would do it, everything min/max'ed according to rawr with your specific gear.. only two differences.. First one - i changed your trinket for you.. you don't need the mark of the war prisoner as you're WAY over hit cap with it.. hell, you're sitll over hit cap without it. Secondly - you can get a blacksmith to make an
eternal belt buckle
for your belt to put another socket in. For some reason the profiler isn't allowing me to do that at the time, but just know that the option is there. In that 2nd belt slow, put another 23 spell power red gem.

Edit: Added quote, Still twitching because I want to correct the spelling and grammar.
just fyi - you can just hit the "quote" button next time and it will quote everything you need, that way you don't have to go in adding their information, and the "report/quote/reply" buttons and such. :)
