"Oi, whats going on over there!" A femenine voice called outside the manor, cleary the woman had seen and heard the blast of energy.

"I have no intention of exerting myself so just yet. Indeed, were a man to step onto a lowly ant, he must spend effort not to crush it to death."

'Jackdaw'
Grimmwald, City Park
Not many citizens of Grimmwald defied the darkness and spent their nights outside of their homes, but among the shadows and trees in the city park a man dressed in burlap and hides seemed to rest peacefully.
The dim light of a lantern cast a soft, orange glow in a small circle around him where he sat upright, legs crossed in front of him and arms hanging limp.
In the slowly dancing light from the flame a weathered face could be seen if one were to look; the man had brown eyes that could have belonged to a wild animal, but if it was a peaceful or fierce one no one could tell. No beard grew on his chin, which contrasted to his aged-looking skin and gave him the appearance of thoroughly matured youth. His hair was fur-like and unruly, not long but not short either; it covered his forehead and neck and seemed to be in tune with the wind rather than be disturbed by it.
He had sat on the soft bed of fallen leaves for many hours, as were his practice, to look at the clouds with half his mind while his body rested. The flame of the ever-glowing lantern at his side appeared to respond to his faint breathing, pulsating with each breath drawn. The whole area around him radiated tranquility, and he was meditating deeply when the sky suddenly was split open.
The man inclined his head backwards and gazed up through the swirling funnel at the void above. When the heavenly gash sealed itself a little later, he appeared unmoved by the spectacle, but something had stirred him. With the nimbleness of a young man he skipped to his feet - the lantern was already in his hand - and looked around for directions. In the low light he could have easily been mistaken for a scarecrow during the few seconds which followed before he soundlessly walked off into the night on his bare feet.

"It will be unnecessary," Nicol stated, dissolving into thin mist; the last thing of him to remain visible were his eyes, the two drops of obsidian glinting ever so brightly with the light that was anything but holy.
In less than two heartbeats, Nicol reformed in front of the Eye, his hand resting upon the lancer's neck.
"Observe, how easily your throat is within my reach," the twice-born purred throatily.

"Oooooi!" The femenine voice called again. The sound of plated boots, and a sword being drawn out from it's scabard filled the manor as the paladin got closer to the battle.

The spear flashed upwards as a frost-bolt formed in his other hand and was flung at Balogh.

With an expression of mild irritation on his face, Nicol flitted backwards, batting away both attacks with only his hands. As he landed, he raised the one hand to have blocked the frost bolt and watched the frostbite fade away and the torn clothing regenerate.
The shadows began to thicken in the hall, and one by one black tendrils sprouted from the dark.

"You have my apologies, miss, for not paying due attention to you," Nicol made a bow with a flourish in Miriawyn's direction. "I am somewhat preoccupied by this person, who is a self-admitted murderer of everyone to have lived in this house, including my cousin Katrina."

"Let me introduce myself properly, then. I am lord Nicol of the noble and mighty house Balogh," the twice-born spoke, all the while more tendrils sprung from the floor to grab the spike and dismantle it into countless cinders that were quickly snuffed out.
"My cousin Katrina, who has married into house Lindtar, was reported dead not long ago. When I arrived here, I found everyone in this manor dead - and then this man attacked me like a raving lunatic, going on about him having killed every living being, every man, woman and child here, for the sake of his Master."

"A pleasure to meet you, milady," Nicol made another bow. "I have been warding his attacks off successfully so far, but I am yet uncertain just what he can do. That spear can emit blasts of energy I have determined to be both blessed by the Light and touched by the Shadow, all the while striking with Arcane at the same time. He has also flung a bolt of Frost energy into me. Look to your defenses, noble paladin!"
