Heh, will this is one of a kind....I've played for years with the same guild, so once we decided to hang out at the bar once. Was nice.

I wish I could use this.
I'd say WoW has played a large part in building the family I have today. About 5 year ago, both of my brothers still played wow with me (they were the two that got me into it). A work buddy of theirs was convinced to return to the game again after listening to them talk about it so much at work. I had never met him, and though 5 years older than me, we became good friends after a while of being in the same guild. A couple of years later after I was no longer in a relationship, I set up a movie with him, one of my brothers and my best friend so I could meet him. I had been crushing on him for a while at this point.. a mere weeks after meeting we were inseparable.. Once our relationship became solid and we would go on trips together sometimes with each others families, we took WoW introductions to a new level. When we went to see Ederolf's brother graduate from the Marine Corp. boot camp, we didn't want to let the fact that a long time WoW friend of ours lived there too. We took a day of the week vacation we took for the event, and went and met our friend Carbin from our server. Our friend Sagelight came to stay with us for a week soon after that, super fun guy! Kefflyn was another friend of ours that we had talked about meeting up with for just as long as we'd known the other guys, but he had a wife and kids so it proved to be hard to find time. All five of us had known each other for almost as long as I had known Ederolf, and they begun to feel like family. We traveled from guild to guild together, until finally I created "Relentless Dawn" on the Alliance side of Maiev, and for almost 2 years we remain there having a blast. September 28th 2013 "Ederolf" from Maiev and I "Tirinei from Maiev got married and are the happiest we've ever been. Best decision I've ever made. To top it off, we managed to get Sagelight, Kefflyn and Quarterpanda (a friend Ederolf had from Firetree before he even knew me, but had never met in person) there to witness the most important day of our lives. I have a picture of all of us, Ed's brother, and my two brothers that all played WoW holding pictures of our character names in front of the alter where we got married.
I met one of my best friends through WOW. We started playing back in Vanilla together and were in a couple of BC guilds. Eventually we decided to co-lead a raiding guild together and over the course of that time, and many late night vent chats, became very close friends (and remain very good friends). He now spends almost every Xmas with me and my family even though right now he longer plays WOW. We live in different states (Washington vs Texas) and have very different jobs (Professor vs Police officer) and lives. Isn't it terrific how a game like this can bring such different folks together?
I knew several people in real life that were also playing WoW. I was best man to my guildmaster. But the friendship that started in wow was by one of our guildies , invited by my guildmaster, that just happened to live fairly close. She is quite shy but very funloving and she gets along with me and my mrs a treat. Always nice to know that it can go both ways, first irl or first meeting in wow, it doesnt matter much :)
I only play with RL friends. I bet my case is pretty rare.
I am not saying that some RL friendships can't be made, I am just thinking that some may not be up for the reality of the situations. Will I watch the show, maybe, if I am super bored and there is absolutely nothing else on
Two of my longest friendships actually started in WoW. I met one friend nine years ago during Vanilla WoW, and we've kept up online ever since, as well as visiting each other a few times since he lives in the same state. The other friend is also my partner of five years. :) We met online while he was living overseas, and I "imported" him.
I met one of my best friends online in 2009 on The Venture Co as Alliance. We've never been able to arrange a face to face meeting because of the distance. We've been playing together daily for nearly 5 years, chatting on vent and on the phone. We have traveled the lands of Azeroth questing, raiding, exploring, and giving many a random horde a serious spanking. We've suited up for battle against the Scourge of the North and brought an end to the Lich King. We stood tall while the earth shook, and did not cower in the inns with the children while Deathwing destroyed parts of Stormwind. We still stand together, arm in arm, in the fight against Garrosh's army. My actual husband has referred to him as "my other husband" for years. Despite the distance, he has been a true friend through the ups and downs in my actual life. Even if, many years from now, Blizzard takes the servers offline, and WoW is no longer, he will remain in my life and my heart as a great friend forever.
Me and my wife met on world of warcraft i lived in Canada and she ,lived in Kentucky we were playing wow for about a year together every day and talking via vent or skype after about a year of talking and playing wow we decided to meet and things went very well now i live in kentucky and am almost a us citizen about to get my green card and we are happily married
i joined a guild on uldaman called the cabal of four horsemen. raiding together and doing general guild things i became very good friends.we would spend all night in vent just telling real life stories and banging out content to level the guild. we became great friends exchanging telephone numbers and talking in vent every day for hours. it was by far the greatest friendship ive ever had on wow, most of them lasted very short (couple dungeons/bg's/arena's) but this friendship lasted a year.also while in the guild i met another kid same age as me (20 now) who i always felt like if we lived in the same country (he was us I'm in Canada) we would be great friends in real life.
A few years back I was working on leveling my hunter and came across Humar the Pridelord. I really wanted him as pet but he was slaughtering me before the tame could go off. I went back to Crossroads to see if anyone was there that could help me and came across a level 70 mage. She agreed to help me and after the tame we headed back to the town just in time for a couple of alliance rogues to assault the town. My dinky little hunter stood no chance and then they turned to her. She held her own but neither could kill the other. I sent her a whisper telling her to keep them busy for 90 more seconds. I flipped to my main warlock who was parked in Ratchet and hoofed it to Crossroads. She was Ice Blocked in the middle with both Alliance beating on her so they didn't notice me land on top of the hill and start nuking the one. The first died as they tried to get to me. She popped out of the Ice Block and destroyed the other now that he was out of melee range and didn't have to split her damage among two targets. We camped them for 30-40 mins as penance before moving on. (Pretty impressive at the time, at least to us, 2 anti-pvp players.) I flipped back to the hunter and she offered to run me through Wailing Caverns for a bit (who's gonna pass up free runs right?). We got talking and that eventually led to forming a co-op between our two guilds (Cornfed Evolution and Zombie Menace). Not long after, Cornfed abandoned Eredar and I joined up with Flipside Kings, a big raiding guild. My warlock was promised to their runs, but Zombie Menace underwent another merger and became Sacred Prophets. I served in their ranks as an Officer with my other toons. I truly had the best of both worlds. FSK were the hardcore-ish raiders working on progression content. SP were the tight-knit friends that progressed slower but stayed civil with one another. The Prophets then, using me as a bridge for introductions to the upper hierarchy, formed a loose co-op with FSK to fill spots in FSK's alt runs and as 2nd stringers for the main run if some of the Kings unexplainably were no shows for progression raid. The Prophets underwent a power shift and my Mage friend became our Guildmaster. Due to school, I couldn't make FSK's raid times anymore and was offered a permanent home for all of my toons with the Prophets. The Mage lead us into WotLK and through Cata and retains her position today. While the guild has hit its highs and its lows, we are still around on Eredar. Through that one chance encounter over something as simple as taming a pet and getting jumped, I have come to be on first name basis with Our guildmaster, her husband, her daughter, and a plethora of other friends who all talk in and out of game alike. Though I've never had the chance to meet her in person yet, the offer has been made and I hope to find the time sometime this summer.- Lok'tar Ogar Tremelo
Sometimes it's not about the friendships that start in WoW, but the ones that WoW manages to save from the brink. For many years, my oldest and dearest friend and I had drifted apart, as sometimes happens. We simply grew apart and time (and our own focuses) separated us. After a couple of years of not really talking, I was on my account and the thought occurred to me that he might enjoy playing as he had enjoyed other MMO's. So I picked up the phone.5 years later we still play around the same times, raid together, and compete with our personal collections. He was even a groomsman at my wedding. While we did know each other before hand, we really didn't "know" each other when Warcraft got involved. But sometimes all it takes is a little common ground. Thanks to Blizz and thanks to WoWhead!
My cousin met one of his better friends through WoW. I had just introduced him to the game, and he was having a blast with it. Eventually he ended up meeting a girl that lived in Texas and, despite the distance, they bonded to the extreme. Eventually he saved up the money to go visit her, and now he attends school there, still remaining in contact with the girl he met over WoW.
I met my best friend through another friend who plays WoW. I don't know what I'd do without her, we help each other through everything now.
About one year ago, I was thinking about suicide because of some personal things, so I logged onto WoW at about 11 o'clock at night. I was sitting in the Lion's Pride Inn on my main realm (Nordrassil), just minding my own business, when a warrior asked me to do a raid. During the raid, we got to know each other a little. We started raiding more and more, which had caused our relationship to grow stronger. When I felt I fully trusted him, I told him everything that had happened to me. He has helped me through everything, as of now. We talk everyday and do a lot of the same things together, such as killing guards in Booty Bay to get rep for a title he wants. Without him, I have no idea where I'd be right now and I honestly think he saved my life. I hope I never lose him; It'd be pretty devastating.I hope you all can find the awesome people that play WoW, like I have. :)
After I took a break at the end of WotLK and during the beginning of Cataclsym, I started playing again in patch 4.1. Because a lot had changed in the time I left, I joined a guild in which two brothers were raidleaders. They showed me around and we're playing together ever since. The "Soero" brothers live in another city 100km away from me. In the summer of 2012 they invited me to stay over and I could stay the night. We played some video games, did a few RBG's, hung out in the sun and had a great day. Next day we went to Duinrell, a themepark in the Netherlands. Because we were all a bit tired, I decided to stay another night. So the last day we went to "Dutch Water Dreams" and did some flowriding (which is MEGA cool and I recommend to everyone).I met the "soero's" again in my city in 2013, where we went to a Jazz festival. Again a great sunny day with a lot of joy (and booze). And I saw them one more time, which was last month. Another guildie, who is a reallife friend of the "soero's", had a housewarming and I was invited. So we went there together and I stayed the night and got the most badass cheese-onion-baguettes in the morning.Soero's, if you're reading this, you guys are AWESOME. Glad I met you guys! :))
