The site looks great, but could be even better! I'm a web developer and when I read your last post about changes coming, I was really hoping you'd make this site responsive. Make it happen! You're almost there. The font is just a tad less legible than the last, perhaps increasing or decreasing it by a 0.1em or 2 would make it better. The reds buttons are horrid. They're too BAM in your face, maybe a darker red, less flat/pastel tone could work. Great job overall :)
Only thing I don't like is the new front page, takes slightly longer to load than just the search box.
I both like and dislike it in part. The layout isn't bad from a news reading/browsing perspective, but the drawback I find is that the primary purpose of the site has been sacrificed in doing away with the central search bar. Frankly, I think the simpler solution to the perceived issue of reader accessibility would have just been to make those article features larger, or include a list on the page design you already had.I hope I'm not some obscure minority when I say that that is the reason I venture to the site 90% of the time - to use that search bar. That's not to say that I don't look at the Wowhead new articles, but they are a secondary piece that I look at when they show up as a new feature. Most of the other changes on the actual information pages feel awkward for now, but that may change as familiarity comes in time. Mainly I feel as though the definitive "lines," so to speak, between the various parts of information and interaction have been erased and made viewing the page a bit muddled, as opposed to the easy, snap-to design of blocking out sections.I'm not against changes and improvements, but I'm really not sure the later applies here, and the site has lost its iconic look.
I'll never be able to stand this awful font. It's just not comfortable to read at all. Reading shouldn't be like a game, something to play with until you master it. And no borders (that is, where borders used to exist) is just so awful in more than one way, and then there's pointless mouseover highlighting. I just don't know where to really start here.Although this whole design is offensive enough, what's most offensive is that you're trying to be something you're not.Wowhead was already a more loved database than WoWDB overall. People already have MMO-Champion for news and interviews. There was no more improvement needed (except returning display of buff/debuff max stack count, unless that part of datamining was blocked). Why couldn't you be satisfied with the virtually perfect state of things instead of just deciding to raze it all?
I dislike it. The original had a single search bar, with database tooltabs and news articles to keep folks up-to-date on what's happening in WoW. It provided an easy, and accessible layout for new comers and kept Wowhead's primary feature as a helpful database first and foremost. This new layout feels alot more cluttery, with news articles everywhere with the search bar is now smaller and up in the corner. It seems almost like you guys are trying to become more of a news site like MMO-Champion, which hinders the main reason folks come here and may confuse newcomers to wowhead, who typically visit this site in hopes of using it's database after hearing the legends.Having the search bar and database tools out of the way just seems counter-productive and de-emphasizes the prestigious title of wow's top database that this great site has earned.I really appreciate the sentiment of you guys trying to make the front page easier for us, and it's great to know you all appreciate this community that much, so i'll try to provide some constructive feedback instead of just saying "buuuh! It sucks!" like everyone else:1. Emphasize the search bar and data tooltips more As i have said before, alot of folks are using this primarily as a useful database and by putting those tools in the corner, it undermines what the community loves about this site, and also makes the homepage look like one of wowhead's blog article pages.2. The homepage shouldn't be so news-dominant.. No offense, but MMO-C is the most rapidly updating news site for WoW, so i feel like new information doesn't need to take up the driver's seat here. It's okay to have news on front page, but devote a smaller section of the page to articles and blogs.3.Keep it organized, neat, and quick/easy-to-access. The frontpage represents the rest of the site -- it's the first impressions. Just like wearing a suit to an interview instead of a tourist shirt. You have to make sure all categories of front page are organized in a way so that you know where to go to find certain information like it's muscle memory. That way; just like wearing a suit to give off good impressions about yourself, a clean and accessible front page will tell people what to expect from the rest of the site and people will want to come back. You may have to play page-tetris, but as long as it's organized. Because right now, this new front page is very cluttered and has so many different boxes and paragraphs-- it's as if i'm staring at a newspaper.4. What does the community like about this site? I see alot of people saying they dislike this, so ask yourselves, what were good things about the old homepage that the community liked, and what are some improvements that could they want? Always keep in mind what people liked about your front page that way you have a good reference point to build upon when giving wowhead a face-lift. I suggest doing a poll or some sort of survey/forum where folks can give feedback on the pros and cons for wowhead/it's old frontpage.NOTE: All of this is just my opinion, I am in no way a website arbiter and i do not intend to be one, this is just my attempt at being helpful with as much help as i can give. Thanks!Note sure if this textwall dribble was any useful, but on the brightside, it's refreshing to see this place updated, know that Wowhead's managers are constantly tending to the site and always keeping it alive! Great job team! :)
Nicely laid out and looks good on a tablet also.
change is almost always negative, immediately. so once the knee-jerk reaction or shock has come and gone, then take the comments a bit more seriously. ;)overall i like it so far. it looks visually appealing. the only thing that immediately stands out as something that just feels "wrong" is that i have seen many people mention, is the zoomed in look or that that everything is larger. if i zoom out about 85-90%, it looks much more easy to read and navigate to me. i do miss having the simple search box as the main focus as well, but that is out of habit. keep up the good work. i look forward to seeing the evolution of this new look!
Looks nice for the most part but could we please have a page with just the search box back? There are times when internet is capped/slow for whatever reason and having to load the entire front page just for the search is going to be annoying.
Add wowhead.com/search with the old Google style homepage. If I want news I'll go to a news source that isn't typically two to ten days out of date. Your "news" has always only been useful for free pets and mounts.
We're taking a break from bugfixes for the evening but will be continuing to work on some tweaks tomorrow. We are reading all of the replies here (also on Facebook, Twitter, and the feedback inbox), and we do appreciate everyone letting us know your thoughts on the new design.
Nice, but I don't really care for all the social media and such. I preferred the simple search bar. It loaded fast, better than the 5-7 seconds this does. I come here to look up armor, quest, achievements. Maybe keep this, but bring back the old home page as a sort of side page so I can bookmark that and side step all this. All this updating Firefox with 29, don't like, Ign with there supposedly "cleaner" page and many others. You guys should take a Poll before doing major changes like this. Like a month long poll. And with this revamp is anyone else having problems with the View in 3D mine just loads the blue outlines of people nothing else? It does look cleaner, but I never used the news page before, and I would prefer if you didn't try to cram it down my throat now. I do not have a Facebook account, nor do I have a twitter account, nor any other social media account. I use a desktop and laptop more then anything and I understand you guys are probably doing this for the mobile viewers, but guess what I use my phone to actually call people during work and throughout the day. I view this during my free time at home, ON A DESKTOP.
I like the design - it does feel like an improvement. But please, please, please bring the front page back.Wowhead is, at least I think so, a database and it should represent itself like one. It's of high importance for a database to be searchable, so that should be the focus, but this.. a small search field in the top right (Eyes start left) doesn't put the search into focus at all.I consider that part a big failure. Also the Show more replies / Add reply button in database comments seems way too strongly colored and removes the focus from the comments. In my opinion it should blend more into the background.Maybe it should be a bit smaller too. It's actually bigger in height than a single line comment. Is it really that much more important?
I agree I think I'll prob like it more as time goes on. However the nice part about Wowheads interface was it that it was like Google plain and simple, a few bells and whistles. /shrug
looks handy and refreshing, i like the classes menu right away main categories, keep same colors plus some reds.
Have to agree that the site looks a lot more "busy" now. Too much so, IMO. I preferred the old layout (and it's not just a case of "don't like change")--it's simply too much like a news.com site to me now--trying to shove way too much in one space.I do love the new profile pages, however (although, is the archaeology "complete" list ever coming back?)ETA: I'd also like the old simple "google-style" search front page back. If I want other stuff I'll go to it.
I don't like it... it's boxy and less clean and just hideous.
Dis change scare me. Do not like da change./cry
It would be nice if you could move the search bar to the upper-middle center so it is the focus of the page and the first thing you see.For example, a big ole skinny search bar would fit perfectly where you have that d3head.com link button and where I suppose the ad banner goes (I have ABP). At least.
