[Fix Inside] Mac Client - This version of WoW uses an unsupported realm

I installed the Mac Client and no matter what I did, it would keep giving me an error about an unsupported realm.
After checking on the forums, I finally figured out what happened:
Using the "Get Info" option by right clicking on the realmlist.wtf, the file name had the .txt file type appended after the .wtf. It didn't show because I had the hide extension checked on.
So, uncheck the Hide Extension and verify that the filename is actually realmlist.wtf
Once I did that, everything worked perfectly.

What realm list file? I've searched nine ways to Sunday and see absolutely nothing with that name.

Thank you, this was very helpful and should be included with the instructions for installation of the wowhead client.
For anyone still having difficulty with this error, here are the correct instructions:
At the OSX desktop, go to: Finder>Preferences>Advanced>Show all filename extensions
Create a new document in
TextEdit
Paste into it:
set realm list us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
go to TextEdit format menu and
Make Plain Text
Save it as
realmlist.wtf
and put it in the same folder as your World of Warcraft application, making sure to remove the .txt from the end, and
when prompted change the filetype to .wtf
Open the wowhead client again and it works correctly.

Thank you, this is what I needed! I have been trying for months to figure out why I kept getting the "unsupported realm" error at upload. This file did not exist in the WoW app folder. Created it and all's well in Azeroth.

Two additional suggestions:
1. Ryall's syntax is slightly off because it adds a space between "realm" and "list". The proper syntax for the TextEdit file is:
set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
2. Many Mac computers do not show the file extension. Even if you save the TextEdit file as "realmlist.wtf", the Wowhead client sees "realmlist.wtf.txt". To fix this issue, from the finder, click on the file, Get Info (command-I), and then manually edit the "Name & Extension" box to remove ".txt" from the name so that it appears as "realmlist.wtf".

Thank you so much! I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get the client to work since I joined in October and had just about given up until I finally found your solution a few minutes ago.
This absolutely needs to be listed under the Wowhead client FAQ's! Were it mentioned there I would have easily solved this problem on the first day without the added hassle!
Update:
I emailed Wowhead's patron email address and suggested they consider adding this to the FAQ's along with their other solution.. I also provided a link to your post (amphyx) so that if they do update, you can get credit for it.(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##Done.

Thank you.. I was really pulling my hair out! It's been years since i used the app, and it always just worked before. Now if I could just figure out why it almost always has an authentication error, or why it says "no data to upload" when authentication does actually work...

You can simply run this command in a terminal window and it will create the file:
echo "set realm list us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com" > /Applications/World\ of\ Warcraft/realmlist.wtf
