"No," granda said as her bare feet touched down. "It should not." She waved the gargoyles off. "Watch."
As one the trio rose into the sky. On the lip of the cliff shadowing the ravine they roosted, the bat-like monsters hunching between their wings and twisting their heads about expectantly.
"
A most unfortunate turn of events
," the banshee crooned, floating by. She stretched a ghostly hand towards the entrance and took in a shuddering breath. "
Oh! Even I can feel the power here, tingling along my long dead flesh
."
"Which would make it a poor hiding place," Granda said.

Smoke. It writhed in the air from near the shore. Thick and dark, at the sight of them Balrick slowed his dreadsteed. The highway ran along the shoreline, affording him a clear view of it, and where the road branched towards the source. The death knight touched his dreadsteed's neck as if to reassure it.
"A town burns," he said, nodding at the smoke. So fixed on it, he never even noticed Dominic finally catch up atop his well winded nag.

Nustal shrugged, stepping further within.
"So... what's supposed to be in here?" He asked.

"The dracolich Cyangros's lab. He instructed me to retrieve something from within here that will serve to empower him."
Vespa drifted after them, her luminescent eyes looking at the long smooth walls. Granda's orb threw a faint light about the walls, but it was little. The stone had been rubbed smooth, yet soon enough a faint crackling glow of violet magic illuminated long glass tubes which ran through the walls. As it did, it showed long arcane sigils, circles embedded with the strange figures of runes, all designed with a mathematical precision. Now and then, as the crackling magic passed above, these signs would dully pulse blue, then fade almost as quickly like the final beat of some heart.

Nustal watched for a moment. "Did he describe what this thing is?" He questioned, slowing as the cave widened. In the dim light, shapes could be made; massive spired rising, chains wrapped with tubes hanging from them, flowing towards the group limply until they lay against the ground. The ends were shattered, the Darkfallen's foot coming to rest upon a broken shackle. "Or who?"

Granda stopped. She raised her hand causing the globe of light to fall upon the shattered prison, lingering shadows among the links of chains and flashing off of broken tubing. "I suspect this was outside his expectations," Granda said.
"
Such a pity
," Vespas sighed as she drifted among the broken equipment, flitting through it like a silvery beam of moonlight.

Balrick drew his runeblade at once. With an echoing whinny Morivus reared, pawing at the air for a moment, and when the dreadsteed's hooves touched the paved path, daggers of ice cracked into existence. The horse pounded down the road towards the ribbon of distant smoke, hooves striking the pavement like gunshots.
Dominic stared after him blankly. "Uh..." He looked at the other two.

"The idiot tuskarr must have disturbed the lab while making their effigy," Granda said, moving about the center of the once prison. Her fur coat hissed as it dragged over the wreckage of the escape. "It disturbed the carefully crafted spell, killing him, but freeing whatever had been imprisoned within."

Karan the Everhungering
Borean Tundra
Karan rode through the twisting landscape with half a dozen ghouls in tow, following a diviner acolyte. His mission briefing had been quick and simple:
Find and investigate. Destroy if necessary.
But what could have caused such a massive backlash of magical energy? Two dead acolytes and one badly damaged divination basin. The blue dragonflight had been keeping to themselves lately. Could they have been working on something? Also, that familiar nagging feeling in the back of his mind was growing stronger again.
His blade hungred. No,
he hungered
.
The death knight's thoughts were interrupted by the acolyte, who had stopped in front of a large crag in the cliffs. A cave of some description led into the darkness. But something didn't seem quite right. The stones were cut into shapes and yet as if shattered by some great force. The man eyed the surrounding area and noticed familiar shapes on the edge of the cliff. Gargoyles. But why here? Was the enemy here?
- "Only one way to find out I guess", Karan muttered as he dismounted his skeletal steed.
The death knight pulled his two-handed runeblade, first pointing the tip at the gargoyles and then lowering it to rest lightly on the ground.
- "In the name of Naxxramas I ask you: Do you serve the Lich King?", the man shouted.

"Let's follow the death knight!" Ithalwen called out. The statlion with the elven rider charged on the frozen path. It made a clear trail to follow... But. The horse could trip or get stabed by those daggers of ice.
So the spellblade pulled her reigns and made it run beside the road, cursed death knight.

Evlyn Linder
New Hearthglen
Linder chose the smaller of the two, a chestnut rouncey with a fluffy mane, and sat up with some difficulty due to her long robes. The staff was also somewhat in the way and she already close to regretted bringing it. Complaining would not do, however. She straightened her back in the saddle and announced: "ready, sir!"

Miter gave the shadow priest a nod. "Then let us not keep the enemy waiting." He flicked his reins and started his white charger off and through the gate, the moan of the wind moving against him as if he rode into the mouth of some immense monster.

The death knight nodded and gestured the ghouls and the acolyte to follow. At the very least there was a chance that there were more agents of the Scourge close by. He raised the runeblade to rest on his shoulder, in a manner that could seem almost casual and relaxed to an untrained eye.
The group entered the cave and the acolyte conjured a sphere of cold blue light to pierce the darkness of the tunnels. Karan lead the party deeper while inspecting the walls. Something large must live or have lived here. And most likely attuned with magic. He absentmindedly caressed the edge of his blade. What were they about to walk into?
- "Sir, the magical energy is increasing. We sh-", the acolyte's mumbling was covered by the sound of one of the ghouls stumbling into a broken off piece of a chain.
In one swift motion Karan was standing next to the unfortunate ghoul and plunged his blade into its skull.
Why do I always have to deal might the mindless ones...

There was no point really in wondering who was in the right or wrong. As Balrick charged over the rise that sloped into the beach he found the village in ruins and only the attackers still among them. Buildings made of hide and the bones of massive animals lay slumped and torched, the source of the inky black smoke. Bodies of rotund tuskarr covered the beach and stained the ice red with their blood, some still clutching harpoons, tools for fishing, not for fighting the hulking green giants which stalked among them. They looked like men, but seemed draped with seaweed and carried brutal crude weapons which they used to hack the bodies of the tuskarr to pieces.
Balrick said nothing but his gauntlets tightened on the reins and his blue eyes grew colder. Moriv picked up the pace. They charged down the hill without slowing, Balrcik drawing his sword. The runes flashed, trailing tails of blue light as Balrick bore down on the first combatant. No battle cry, he simply brought down the blade on the startled kvaldir.
The giant died without knowing what had come, and his body seemed to explode into seaweed and salt water.
"What!" Balrick barked and cursed as he and Moriv fouled in the seaweed. The horse whinnied as they skidded across the ice, horse falling over with a crash and sweeping two more startled raiders from their own feet.

Borean Tundra
From the remains of the village buildings, a girl ran, a handful of dead ghouls in her wake. Long blue hair flowed behind her, loose furs covering her in the vaguest sense. In her hands, she gripped a large fishing spear, meant to stab deep into the sea for fish, and quite longer than she was tall.
Skidding to a halt, her bare feet digging into the icy ground, she raised the weapon in one hand, eying the Valkyr raising the dead. With impressive strength, if not expert aim, she tossed the spear like a javelin at the undead.
