Not necessarily. They would keep it somewhere safe, most likely, because it is the phylactery which contains their soul.

Character Name:
Rohael of Halaa, Vindicator of the Hand of Argus
Race:
Draenei
Gender:
M
Age:
Exact age unknown. Young; looks not far out of adolescence.
Class:
Paladin
View on Faction:
Tends to presume that they mean well unless he sees proof otherwise. Warlocks and death knights give him the creeps.
Their view on the 'bad guys'- do they think Illidan/arthas/kael'thas are baddies or misunderstood?:
Baddies. Definitely baddies. This guy is a young, idealistic, rookie paladin who—in some ways—sees things very much in black and white.
Personality:
Rather sweet and innocent, painfully honorable. Not particularly dumb, but certainly naïve as a kitten's whiskers.
Family?:
His father was killed by orcs in one of the early attacks. His mother is missing and presumed dead after the fall of Shattrath. He has an older sister, but they got separated from each other at some point between the capture of the Exodar and the crash. (She's still alive, by the way. And wherever she is, she's worried about him.)
A description of your character- can be just a descrip, or an RP introduction:
Of moderate height, Rohael is stocky and heavily muscled. He has dusky purple skin and rather unruly brown hair that's usually worn in a topknot. His face—adorned with two short, thick tendrils at the corners of his jaw and two longer, thinner ones on his chin—is broad and boyish.
It should also be noted that he speaks Common with a heavy accent, and his command of the language is fairly poor.

Character Name: Raecatta (Raerianna) Shadowclaw
Race: (Former Night Elf) Tauren
Gender: Female
Age: Exact age as current state unknown due to conditions
Class: Druid (Feral)
View on Faction: Due to her reincarnation, Rae has a lot of issues with Horde/Alliance and where she stands. She prefers simply to side with the Circle on most matters.
Their view on the 'bad guys'- do they think Illidan/arthas/kael'thas are baddies or misunderstood? Baddies, definitely baddies.
Personality: Rae tends to be quite the somber one. She is constantly being called upon to help heal various injuries, or help solve problems, which leaves her little time for herself and little time to relax. When she is finally at ease, she is friendly to all save undead and most call her kind, sweet.
Family?: She claims her family dead to any who do not know her well. She had once birthed a son.
A description of your character- can be just a descrip, or an RP introduction:
Raecatta is an usual case. Born a night elf, trained as a druid, she was executed for circumstances beyond her control. Unknown to her, as to why, how or any of the major questions, her spirit was reincarnated into a tauren body approximately a year later. (Done to explain a faction change.) Due to this backround, she tends to stay out of anything Horde vs. Alliance related, unless it directly endangers life in front of her. Due to the inner conflict of -what- she is, let alone -who-, Rae has had issues with her shapeshifting, causing her to become more and more feral. She is a danger to those around her when losing control of the form she is in, and will normally retreat to a forested area as soon as she is able.

Character Name: Thragg Earthbreaker
Race: Orc
Class: Shaman
Age: 76
Description
: Thragg was young member of the Warsong clan when the Horde was formed, but he remembers very clearly many of the events that revolved around it. His parents refused to let him be aged by the warlocks, instead letting him grow up naturally, teaching him about shamanism and the ways of orcs before the Horde.
By the time Thragg was an adult, he sought the path of shamanism, and began down that path. By the time Thrall's Horde had set sail for Kalimdor he was a talented and respected shaman. However, during the battle against Cenarius' forces, Thragg was forced to take part in drinking from the corrupted pool, and the elements refused to assist him. The blood rage now coursing through him only allowed him to be infuriated by this, and in order to regain his control over the elements he sold his soul to a demon.
The demon corrupted his totems with demonic runes, runes that would allow him to force the elements to obey him. After Thrall and Jaina freed the Warsong clan from the bloodcurse, however, he realized that he would not be able to be freed from his enslavement, and so put himself into exile within Dustwallow Marsh, deciding to stay there untill death claimed him as attonement for his actions.
He would soon be joined, however, by a demon, a dreadlord claiming to hold his loyalties to the Lich King instead of the Legion, named Zarrok. Thragg and the demon hunted each other, untill finally fate brought champions to each's aid. In a furious battle, Thragg finally managed to slay the demon - or at least belived to have - with the assistance of the blood elven paladin Nilon Lighteye. The victory came with a price, though, and Thragg's wolf companion Mistwalker was slain by the death knights fighting alongside the dreadlord.
Thragg accompanied the paladin and his allies, determined to slay the undead that had killed his companion. The hunt brought him to the plaguelands, where Thragg was forced to commune with the spirits themselves to attempt to ressurect the paladin. The spirits responded, but to his surprise however he found that they were not angry. They instead said that Thragg's decision to finallly speak with them, in their opinion, was a nobel act worthy of forgiveness. They bestowed their power upon him, rendering the need for his fel-corrupted totems obsolete and allowing him to ressurect Nilon.
After a final, climactic battle within the Eastern Plaguelands, Thragg finally returned to orcish society where he taught what he knew of honor to the youonglings of the Horde. He took on an apprentice, Tauman Grimtotem, and both of them played a part in the battles within Outland and in the war against the Scourge in Northrend. With the coming of the Cataclysm and Garrosh Hellscream's rise to the position of Warcheif, Thragg has began to worry about the future of the Horde, however he knows that he is too old to do anything about it himself. Instead he continued to teach the younglings of the Horde about the finer point of what it means to be called 'Horde', hoping that, one day, they will have the power to make a difference for the Horde and for Azeroth.

Just my little 'duo.'
Character Name: Lockhorn
Race: Tauren
Gender: Male
Age: In human terms, mid-twenties. (Not good with Lifespans.)
Class: Shaman
View on Faction: Lockhorn cares little for the war between the Alliance and Horde. He is far more tied with the problems of Nature and helps the Druids in attempting to restore the lands of Kalimdor.
Their view on the 'bad guys': Lockhorn is usually rather open-minded. He tries not to judge the major 'evils' of the world by the stories.
Personality: Lockhorn is rather quiet and shut in. He doesn't show his emotions much, but fights fiercly to protect nature and his friends.
Family?: In truth, his only real family is nature and Olet. He and Olet look after one-another better then any 'family' could.
-----------------------------------------------------
Character Name: Olet
Race: Blood Elf
Gender: Female
Age: Adolescent
Class: Priest / Ranger
View on Faction: Olet ties herself to the Horde. Although she has little care of the war, she still considers herself a part of her race and their alliances.
Their view on the 'bad guys': Olet knows only what she hears in stories throughout her travels.
Personality: In quite the contrast to Lockhorn, Olet is rather energetic and happy. She is always running and looking for the next adventure.
Family?: Olet considers herself a Blood Elf, a member of her race. However, her closest thing to true family is Lockhorn. She also shares his bond with nature.

Their view on the 'bad guys
Poor question. It should rather be "their view on faction leaders". Kael is (was) the leader of a faction, and so was Illidan. The Lick King is as well, without a doubt. This allows it to answer more about the character. Instead of how they see the other Faction, we can explain how our character feels about the leaders of each race as well, giving a greater sense of "why" they feel against the faction.
And also, please remember that your character can never be directly related to any major NPC character, not Arthas, not Jiana, not Thrall, not anyone. This wouldn't work in RP, as we would then be seeing 500 brothers and sisters of Thrall, Arthas, Vol'jin, Sylvanas, ect. ect. The same applies to being friends, close comrades, or anything in that direction. You could easily have been one of the hundreds of soldiers below either of them, but never directly known by them.
Either way, here is my character:
Name: Lester Illumius
Race: Blood Elf
Gender: Female
Age: 723 years
Class: Blood Knight - Lester is a defender at heart. She never lost her way in her pursuit of Justice, as she carries out her vengeance on her foes. She lives by the shield, and protects those she holds dear, her friends and comrades, and would rather fall to the scourge, than letting one of her allies die.
View on the Factions:
Lester doesn't feel any harsh feelings against the alliance. In fact, she believes them to be merely ignorant, tainted by the propaganda and hate that comes from past events. She don't believe the past can dictate the future, and therefore lives in the present.
King Varian is a man of much hate. The orcs who imprisoned him caused his deep hate, and Lester understands this hate. However, she doesn't understand why he keeps this against the Orcs, and Thrall, when he wasn't the one who did this. Likewise, she finds the campaigns between the two factions to be stupid, as there are constant threats against both factions, which they should rather work against as a team. For this reason, she likes the Shattered Sun Offensive, The Argent Crusade, and the other factions that consists of both Horde and Alliance troops, fighting side by side.
She cares little for Illidan, but views Kael'Thas as the savior of her kin. She feels great sorrow towards Kael, and views the insanity that ended up destroying him, as the sacrifice he made to save his brethren. Therefore, she views him as a hero, even if she was among the many who fought against him and his troops in the Eye in Netherstorm, and later again on the Isle of Quel'danas, along with the Shattered Sun Offensive.
The Lich King is a true villian in her eyes, but even so, she couldn't bring herself to aid in the campaign against him. He destroyed her home, and killed all her relatives, but regardless of this fact, then the knowledge that a young boy, Arthas, is the one who recieved all of the punishment that befell him, was enough to make her turn away from it. Arthas is, and was, simply a boy who wanted to protect the kingdom he was to inherit from his father. And in his attempt to do this, he was taken by it. The same applies to Sylvanas, and because of her, she still believes that Arthas had a chance of breaking free of the Lich King's hold.
Personality: Lester is a somewhat isolated person. She prefers being alone, or among animals, including Dragons. Everything is more simple that way. She does, however, like defender others, and would never say no, if someone asked her if she could help against some evil that threatens the peace of the people or wildlife that lives nearby. She is dead set on vengeance when she feels it is due, but she have yet to bear a grudge for more than a couple of weeks at a time. She easily forgives people, and is generally quick to understand why someone did what they did. She have little interest in love, however, as it is simply too complicated, and can end up causing her more pain than good, in the long run.
Description:
Lester isn't very tall, and her small frame only makes her look even less like a warrior, even when you watch her wearing her quite large Plate armor. Her armor is a darker yellow, with red marks and stripes, signifying her status as a Blood Knight. She uses a dark coloured sword, coupled with a light coloured shield, symbolising her belief between the evil acts you commit by attacking, but the good acts you do by defending.

You could easily have been one of the hundreds of soldiers below either of them, but never directly known by them.
Eh, this depends how you work it. Any of my Characters who fought in ICC met Garrosh and Tirion. And another character was a lutinent of the LK (Marrowgar and Deathwhisper rank) who was simply in another part of ICC at the time.
The secret is to treat them like a celebrety or politician you may have met in real life. Do you know them? Yeah. Do they know you? Maybe, depending on how you met, what you did, and how long said encounter was. Are you BFFs? Hell no.
