Not in any special order my favorites are:
High School of the Dead. I like all things zombie survival related and this one tells a good story and gets more interesting if you follow up with the manga.
Kill la Kill. Good fights interesting story.
Cowboy Bebop. First anime series i watched all the way through and really liked.
Ninja Scroll (the movie one): It was my first real introduction to anime and set the pace for what i like. plenty of action some romance on the side and a good story sometimes with a nice twist.
.Hack//Sign. It contains my greatest dream and night mare of being trapped in a game. stories really good to.
Shout out to the good ones that aren't my top 5: Gundam Wing, Bleach, Dragon Ball, DBZ, Outlaw Star, Ghost in a Shell (movies and series), Avatar, Black Lagoon, Full Metal Panic, Trigun, and many many more.

I've been getting caught up on Gurren Lagann lately. I'm up to date on Kill la Kill and Space Dandy, waiting for Attack on Titan Season 2, and can't find anywhere that streams Cowboy Bebop. So Gurren Lagann it is. Looking forward to the second half of this one. Accidentally spoiled myself a little bit and found out it has the biggest Mecha (with a definable scale) ever.

Wow.
Edit: I won't believe in the Wowhead that believes in me. I must believe in the me that believes in me.

Bwahahaha. I love the new icon. And yeah Gurren Lagann is the epiphany of badass. I love how the core idea of the show is: "SCREW LOGIC, MANLINESS AND DETERMINATION IS ALL IT TAKES TO BREAK THE LAWS OF EVERYTHING."
Fun fact, thanks to Gurren Lagann, I had a lot more fun while watching
this movie
. Guess why.
(not that it wouldn't be fun without the Gurren Lagann references, but they were cool.)

You need to watch Evangelion. Still favorite anime of all time.

(not that it wouldn't be fun without the Gurren Lagann references, but they were cool.)I didn't notice the references, because I hadn't seen TTGL yet. Which ones were they?
Also, I liked the move (The Lights in the Sky are Stars) ending better.
Where Simon actually fistfights the Anti-Spiral, before doing the Kamina pose and drilling through his chest. Also, Super Tegen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Man, look at the helmet of the robot, on the picture that I linked. It is absolutely wearing Kamina shades.

I'll check it out, I don't think anything will ever replace Berserk as my favorite though. The anime is amazing, and the manga is probably one of the most damned flawless pieces of art I've ever seen.

It's actually not as long as most people think. The guy comes out with like 8 chapters a year, so even though it's been around for over 20 years, there's only about 330 chapters. I would start with the 1990's anime, which leaves off on a massive cliffhanger, and then start reading from there. Not to harp on it, but I really can't recommend Berserk enough, at least if you're into medieval/dark fantasy. It's not for the feint of heart though.
As for Doctor Who, I would start with the 2005 reboot if you don't wanna go back and watch all the old stuff. They do a fairly good job of introducing new fans to the basic's of the Doctor's universe.

Also, the Two Best Friends love it.
And thanks for the tips on Dr. Who.

Let me know if you wind up checking out either. Always on the look out for people to chat up about stuff like that. You still got my email, right?

You don't use Steam often by any chance? It's my preferred social network (mainly because I hate all the others).

Or you could start with
this
if you want a quick intro to the series.

I didn't even know it was a social networking device until recently. I don't use it myself, usually just Skype or emails.

Even though I very much enjoyed the Golden Age movie trilogy, I wouldn't recommend it as an introduction to Berserk. As an action anime it's first rate, but it cuts out a lot of the character development, and the deep and complex characters are one of the biggest things that make berserk so extraordinary. The dynamic between Guts, Griffith, and Casca is the main thing that makes the big finale of both anime projects so tragic, and sets the tone for the rest of the manga, and it just doesn't have as big an impact in the new movies.
