Kind of a long shot, but I'll ask anyway. I'm putting together a little page for my entry level web design class, so I'm definitely no javascript expert. I've included the Powered by Wowhead tooltips for the spell links I'm using, but now I find myself wanting more.
I'm currently using some decent, but relatively lame tooltips to display more information on key words in the page. Not only do they not match the Wowhead tooltips, but they have no understanding of where the edges of the page are, and will slide right out of view if the element they are hovering over is too close to the top or right side.
Essentially, in order to keep a clean, consistent feel to the page, I've been trying to figure out how to make my own tool tips that I can put whatever block of text/html I want into, that will look exactly like the Wowhead tooltips.
After pouring over the power.js file for a good while, I find my lack of javascript experience leaves me with very little idea how to adapt this to my needs. All I need is the look and feel, without the tooltip referencing Wowhead for data. I just simply can't identify what code is what in the script file.
Is there any relatively easy way to do this?

I have a problem with the tooltips and umlauts.
I use de.wowhead.com for tooltips and have default codepage settings in my browser (opera 10) which means it uses the default of the site (doesn't it?)
http://de.wowhead.com/?item=47493
So all the umlauts are not displayed correctly.
If I force my browser to display the page in UTF-8 encoding the tooltip is displayed correct with all umlauts.
I also use another tooltip source parallel (from a site more commonly used in germany than wowhead, but I like wowhead more than the other one :P) and that one supports umlauts by default without forcing my browser.
I wonder if you can solve this easily by maybe setting utf-8 encoding as standard. It may not be a big bug and doesn't effect all browsers but just wanted to point that out.
edit: I checked with IE and firefox, both seem to set utf8 as default and not use server-provided charset, so they display everything correctly by default. - I guess no one would be hurt if it would be provided by the server as default for those rare cases where it doesn't work.

Hi,
where may me find these Icons for these Wowhead tooltip-types:
<a href="javascript:;" onmouseover="$WowheadPower.showTooltip(event, 'Hello :0', 'inv_sword_14')" onmousemove="$WowheadPower.moveTooltip(event)" onmouseout="$WowheadPower.hideTooltip();">Hai to you!</a>
i like to make some funny ones by myself : >

Hi everybody !
Like I said few days ago, the script don't work good with website or forum in UTF8 format.
Working on with 2 friends, we have changed the script and add a UTF8 library...
Here you can find the 2 script codes :
http://gondolyn.free.fr/wowhead/UTF8_Wowhead.zip
So you have to write this line BEFORE the new wowhead script for the lib UTF8 :
<script type="text/javascript" src="utf8_lib.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="power.js" ></script>
May be the wowhead team can change the official script.... ;)
Bye

Having the same problem, but not just in IE8. Also in IE7.
error:
Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object expected
var at=g_getScroll();

OK fixed it. Downloaded the JS file and put it in my project.
Then replaced the offending function:
old function:
T.getCursorPos = function(au) {
var ar, av;
if (window.innerHeight) {
ar = au.pageX; av = au.pageY
}
else {
var at = g_getScroll();
ar = au.clientX + at.x;
av = au.clientY + at.y
}
return { x: ar, y: av }
};
Replaced with: (note taht this might not work in all cases, but does for my achievement run request webapp).
T.getCursorPos = function(au) {
var ar, av;
if (window.innerHeight) {
ar = au.pageX; av = au.pageY
}
else {
ar = au.clientX;
av = au.clientY;
}
return { x: ar, y: av }
};
