so i was breezing through my prot set cause iv been considering the respec... and i put it all on to see how close i was to def capped
and i fell far shorter than i thought i should in mostly epics..
so i sat and added up all the +def rating on my gear and it added up to far more than wow had posted in my character sheet...
is this normal? lol
i reset my ui completely and removed all mods and still the same results...
any one help? lol

You're not confusing defense and defense rating as the same thing are you? At 70 you need 2.37 defense rating to get 1 point of defense.

ahh now that i did not know.. can u tell i havent traveled far out of my warm little dps spec? lol
so im at 460 atm with just over 12k hp still fury spec'd safe to respec and start takin down heroics/ karah with ease or would it still be a touch difficult cause im not def capped quite yet?

You should be familiar with crit rating and hit rating from your dps spec, defense rating works the same way, at least that's cleared up though.
12k health is reasonable for starting Kara and heroics in my opinion but I can say from experience that you can hit 490 defense with quest rewards, crafted items, and normal mode instance drops, and indeed you should try to do so before you enter Kara as a tank. Despite your health if you are under 490 defense that suggests to me that you really don't have the gear to move beyond normal mode instances yet.
There's a decent pre-kara gear guide in the "Yakra's Theories on Tanking" sticky in this forum, take a look at that or post an armory profile if you need to figure out which tanking items of yours need improvement.

i would post my armory but i dont usually run around in my prot gear so my armory is all my dps gear, but i only have 3 pieces that are not tanking specific pieces, s1 shoulders and the adamantine plate chest and bracers T_T once i get 15 defence to chest and the same to cloak i will be capped with the spec, ty for clearing that up tho

If you take the Prot Talent Anticipation, that will boost your Defense Skill to 480. Likewise, if you go to the Isle of Quel'Danas and buy the Glyph of The Gladiator from the SSO quartermaster and use that to enchant your helm, the 20 resilience rating will lower the defense cap to 477, making you crit immune.
Resilience is a poor choice to go to become crit immune, while the glyph does add more hp the KoT
Glyph
is better in every other way.

the
aldor chestpiece
should be an upgrade, and you only need revered. since you already have the S1 shoulders, go get the
S2 shield
. both are very nice for what you want to tank, and will lower your defense cap quite a bit. yes, resilience is a bit of a crutch, but it can help you bridge the gap while you're improving your gear. and the armor/stam on those two items makes them better than your other choices even without the resilience.
i would stick with the KoT head glyph, and get +150hp to chest intead of the defense enchant.
you only need 485 for heroics by the way - 490 is for raid bosses.

Before you are crit immune, the SSO glyph is far superior. Once you are crit immune, its a matter of effective health vs. avoidance.

But.....
OP said he's at 460 fury specced, add 20 from talents then 16 from the glyph, taa daa, crit immune, with a lil' extra avoidance for flavor.
However, I agree with you, I myself have a helm with the SSO glyph and one with the KoT glyph (somewhere in the mass collection of gear clogging my bank and bags), just for whatever stats I need at any given time.
btw, might want to consider something else soon:cheers to all the warriors who loath tanking.

From 480 defense the resilience still adds value beyond what the stamina gives, which means that glyph is worth more than usual. And considering some people take it ONLY for the 18 stamina, it is quite an excellent glyph when you get more than that out of it.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you to an extent, the SSO glyph is more effective health (point in your favor that EH is preferable for progression content)
the KoT is better for avoidance, but if you have a choice I say go with
this
beauty. Little difficult to get but sooo worth it.

I would only bust my ass for that if I knew the helm I was putting it on would be the last helm I'd ever use, knowing blizzard this will never happen...
I've managed the enchant twice now, first time I pulled an extremely dumb move......put it on an eternium greathelm >.<
I've ended up in ZG a lot somehow, usually by organizing fun raids as an excuse to try to get yet another of my wifes alts (long story short, she's a top contender for altaholic of the year) or friends/guildies alts some decent gear to head to outlands with.
Sad thing is, after the first mistake with the presence of might, I've been afraid to use my second one.
