The point of this forum is to provide a single location where the posts are held to a higher standard than in the rest of the forums. We wanted to provide a place where stupid questions simply weren't allowed. Users who are interested in coaching new players, and providing a safe haven for players of all skill levels with none of the rancor and bitterness of the official forums have the opportunity to do so in the class and general forums. Meanwhile, those who don't like the clutter brought on by the more "accepting" forum philosophy Wowhead has, can use the Theorycrafting forum as a place to discuss the finer points of WoW where the signal/noise ratio is as high as possible.
Frankly, Nefarion and Caribou16 were two people from whom I was especially interested in reading contributions.

If it's going to be heavily moderated
That's the plan.

Is it meant to be pro-theorycrafters only, or can I make attempts to unleash the math there for my frist time? In other words, if my math and logic are good, but I haven't used them in WoW, is the new forum a place for me, or do I fall in the 'reader' category?

From my understanding it's meant to be used by players with a large understanding of the game's background mechanics. Things like hidden combat formulas and calculations that can explain how things work and how to optimize character peformance with solid math to backup the theorys.
It's a forum designed for
advanced
discussions only, and thus it can (and to a degree should), feel a little bit intimidating for the general crowd to post in there. Threads need to stay on topic and anything that doesn't directly contribute to the discussion will be removed.
I believe over time people will get an understanding for how the forum works, and hopefully will learn not only how the math works, but where it came from, and be able to apply it to their own situation. Theorycrafted calculations allow players to push their characters to their limits, and this is the perfect place for people to come and get the information they need without the clutter.

If your goal is to try your math out and get opinions from other theorycrafters, more power to you. The goal here is primarily to weed out the dumb questions. :)

I would hope that there would be nothing wrong with posting stuff you're not sure of as long as it's composed well and you've done your homework before you made an attempt at it.

Of course not! That's exactly what we're looking for. :)
The main objective is to keep the threads/posts well worded and well presented, and to stay on topic.

FTR I love forums that have sections with different moderating rules. One learns to live with poor composition on the Internet, but enclaves of readability make the experience much more enjoyable.
