I'm dead sure this has been asked before but keywords pull up half the forums X.x
FIrst, will the new zones also seem to do that whole "Greens replace epics" thing that BC did? So far it seems like Blizz likes the current scale of the game (besides a few changes, i have an enhance shaman and they're getting a BIG stats overhaul) but are we really going to see any major gear replacement/changes?
I ask because I'm still just gearing my chars up for 20 mans and stuff, but it seems kinda pointless if that's already going to be replaced; why get badge gear when I can be lazy and score greens that run along the same lines, ya know?
Also, and this ties in with my previous question I guess (and I figured only beta testers will know this) but how's resilience and other stats going to work? There's already a resilience cap kinda sorta with current gear, are we expecting that the cap will rise as players get more levels/gear?
And what's the whole change to threat/tanking? I've not seen anyone discuss this openly how the changes are, if they're set in stone, if they need tweaking...
And specifically to enhancement shaman, is Maelstrom Weapons as good as it looks? (For PvE, I PVP with my druid >.>) Because I forsee constant Fire Shock > Instant critting Lava Blasts.

As a moonkin with a mix of gear going from a few T4 up to a few T6 items with most in the middle (T5, ZA, badges), i upped to level 75 by fully exploreing two of the new zones and only replaced 2 items at the moment.
Brute Cloak of the Ogre Magi
for
Cloak of Azure Lights
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=35749
for
Will of the Red Dragonflight
Didn't do many instances yet. There were a few items that had better spellpower or stuff and a good ring too, but meta-gems/epic gems/enchants as well as stat balance make the old ones superior and i don't see the point in enchanting levelling items.
Edit : threat works the same. What changed are the threat modifying abilities for tanking classes (talents integrated into other spells or stances or whatever) and dps classes (some more threat reduction for a few specs, haven't seen enough to say if it's general or not). This will allow non-specced tanks to better keep agro and thus reduce the need for a fully specced tank in levelling instances.

Apart from the stamina rebalancing that took place at TBC launch, gear progression should be similar when WotLK arrives. Which means you won't immediately swap your imba epics for some random green quest reward they throw at people for stepping off the boat, but you will replace pretty much everything when doing level 80 dungeons. Gear from level 80 heroics, raids and arenas should utterly destroy anything from level 70.
PS: If WotLK had done the same stamina rebalancing that TBC did, the tank chest above requiring level 75 would have had 135 stamina.

What do you play this game for: fun, or an epeen stroke? If your ego is sore and you need those shiny epics to feel good about yourself, then yeah, don't bother. If you actually play this game for fun, then I see no problem with eventually replacing the items you will get good use out of for better items and further progression.
Hmm, your logic is flawed here; I beta'd BC and right off the bat I knew that it's pointless to really do much in vanilla WoW because I knew firsthand that a lot of my epics were going to be vendored. So when the release came closer, our guild who all wised up decided to just have fun, PvP and not raid, because the gear wasn't worth it anymore.
And we had fun, laughed and when BC was released we geared up again. Thanks for my foresight I think I did the right thing, and I might have to do it again, sadly I haven't seen much of the gear curve so I don't want to make the assumption that I should bust my butt for badge gear I still need for my shaman when I can just say "It's alright, just PvP and do runs with your guild and wait for the xpac"
In the end though, I think I play for fun and epeen stroking, in fact, I think it's fun to stroke my epeen as much as possible. My ego gest so happy when I have epics and when our guild has a good run, and when three of us are drunk over vent quoting Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
I think it's that mix that really makes me play (and it's brought me back to WoW like three times.)

No I think I read your context wrong though. You meant don't bother doing current raiding because the gear will be replaced in WOTLK, whereas I read it as if you were insinuating I was an ass, or maybe you were and I read it right but it doesn't matter; no I knew that there would be some gear changes, but are we talking huge? Like, my druid shot up to 10k health at level 64-66 which was partly due to itemization at the time, but epic'd tanks now are standing from anywhere 16khp-20k hp.
So, if I were to take these stats now and pretend BC happened all over again with WOTLK then we're looking at tanks who are standing with perhaps 10-13k HP at level 72ish with greens, non gemmed and regular quest items.
I didn't know if that's how it's going to be or if Blizz liked what they had now and didnt want to deviate too much from it.
Because now I can also see 5 mans where the tank is getting hit for 3k ish (non heroic perhaps, who knows) which also means +healings scale'd now to the 2.5k-3.5k range to cover said damage.
These numbers are all pulled out of my butt though, but hopefully you all get the general idea.

our guild who all wised up decided to just have fun, PvP and not raid, because the gear wasn't worth it anymore. Which means you were raiding solely for gear and not for fun (unless you were in one of the very few Nax farming guilds, which i doubt because Nax gear was worth it compared to non-raiding BC gear).
I'll continue raiding up till the evening before wotlk shelves, because progression is where i have fun.

Will of the Red Dragonflight
Got nerfed, they removed the crit on it :/ Well, back to my TBC trinket.
So, after completing 2 zones and 2 instances, only 2 new items changed.

Restoration druid wearing "almost killed Illidan" level of gear. Leveled up to 77, only healing item I've replaced is a ring from a quest to do Utguarde Keep (as it had a million spirit). I've not instanced very extensively, though.
