KD, TSE, & BF - Epic Tanking Sword Showdown!

The Objective
To determine which weapon is
the best
for which situation.
The Sun Eater
- The weapon which has eluded me for a year & a half.
King's Defender
- The weapon I got on my warrior's first Chess event.
Blazefury
- Quite possibly my most beloved one-handed weapon of all time (outside of the old Thunderfury & Quel'Serrar).
Why?
The issue between King's Defender & Blazefury was recently brought to my attention. The issue was really whether or not to spend time & money enchanting KD with Mongoose when one already has Blazefury with Executioner. I threw The Sun Eater into the mix just for kicks. They are all 1.6 speed weapons suitable for tanking.
Note
: I found the spreadsheet I created for a similar comparison earlier this year. Actually, I lost the original, but had uploaded it to Google Documents. You may view this spreadsheet
here
(click on the sheet named "Tanking Swords").
-----
The Comparison
Effective Health:
KD (284) > BF (281) > TSE (220).
KD clearly wins!
Total Avoidance:
TSE (1.66%) > KD (0.65%) > BF (0.63%).
TSE clearly wins!
Average Damage:
BF (156) > KD (140) > TSE (133.5).
BF clearly wins!
TSE & KD also have 0.21% increased block chance due to defense. BF has none.
BF has 0.57% increased critical strike chance due to agility. KD & TSE have none.
This is all I came up with at the moment, though I'm sure there are some other perks as well. I will leave it up to the user to determine which weapon to use for which situation, but I will say this: in most situations, exception being raid bosses, one should choose the highest available threat-generating weapon.

Blazefury is out for me (gold/time/lazy) but I had found it ideal to carry both The Suneater with Mongoose and King's Defender with Executioner. For some reason amongst all the posts about these weapons it is rare to see that mentioned and I don't understand why. Afterall, you should have a set of armor for different purposes such as avoidance and effective health, these two weapons enchanted that way are ideal for each (depending on gear level ofc).

what is advantage of executioner over mongoose for threat?
I am using "The Unbreakable Will"
I just don't see avoiding 840 armor as a big deal on the 25-man raid bosses...
But it is a big deal, from a threat standpoint. For threat purposes only Mongoose gives on average an extra 33 TPS while Executioner gives twice that at 66 TPS. Which is why I like to have a weapon with each for my different needs.

I used Blazefury all the way until I got
The Brutalizer
.

Weapons are also nice, in that they can be swapped mid combat. Lead off with a threat weapon, and if you end up 50k over the rest of the competition somewhere in the middle, stick on your
avoidance/EH weapon
with
Mongoose
.
/clearly-not-biased
// =D
///No really, I've got a weapon with Executioner now!
Or, pull with
The Decapitator
and instantly swap to your regular tanking weapon.
Don't try it with
Kang the Decapitator
though ;P

For when you need to get a major aggro boost right off the pull your best bet is to pull with a warlock you found in the lfg channel, as soon as he dies use taunt.

Blazefury just really is that good, in my opinion.
I don't really buy into the whole "one weapon can change everything" outlook many do. As I have said time & time again over the last year, quoted from Satrina, we have 16 slots for stats - the 17th is the most important for threat generation.
However, I do agree that certain fights are less threat intensive than others & in those, where a huge lead is almost guaranteed, something with more health or avoidance is probably just as good if not better. Like Yakra said, =p
p.s. Yakra: Screenshot or it isn't true!

I agree. Also, you could note the difference in how itemlevel scales items in different slots. An armor item such as a helmet gains two things from being of a higher itemlevel or quality: Armor and "stats" - the "stats" go into the big blizzard calculator and come out the other side as some selection of actual stats. A shield gains armor, block value and "stats". A weapon (melee or ranged) gains DPS and "stats".
As such, a weapon upgrade gets a built-in scaling of threat generation that armor upgrades don't get. In addition, the weapon slot happens to get enchants that are generally limited to stuff that will improve threat generation (whether a little or a lot).
So there are some fairly convincing reasons to look at the weapon slot as primarily a threat slot.

The main difference for me, is when I'm on an encounter where I know I don't have to build the highest threat
as quickly as possible
. In those situations, I could see myself using King's Defender. However, I do not see myself using The Sun Eater at all because it is so inferior in terms of threat generation.
My next logical weapon would most likely contain expertise.

You should include the
Cleaver of the Unforgiving
in your comparison.
I currently use that with mongoose as my tanking weapon.
That's an interesting idea, but my comparison is usually done in trio & ZA was a step beyond my thoughts at the time.
It's possible to find the effective health of that weapon easily: it's 310. My idea for that weapon would include a +8 (or higher) hit rating gem (similar to that of The Gun).
The total brings it up to 20 hit rating & 340 effective health. Clearly outclassing the other weapons in those areas. 20 parry rating is 0.85% parry rating, which helps with threat generation. The average damage is 157.5 (another winner, by a margin).
Why not use Executioner on this weapon?
