If you wanna tank at 70, spec protection right away. You'll kill rather slowly but you won't die alot and can finish some quests in one or two pulls.

Yeah, you should do what you want to be good at. There is a lot of plate gear in OL from quests that give spelldamage, stamina, and such. So you won't have trouble getting gear, and you'll be able to grind pretty quickly. And if you enjoy doing instances you should have no problem finding groups.

I did the prot aoe build all the way to outland. If this is how you're grinding levels, get some of the first greens from hellfire peninsula quests, then go back to EPL and level to 60 before you start outland for real-real. You'll thank me later...
Leveling as prot in Outland was painful as there are very few places with just melee types to do your AOE grind, not to mention the fact that outland mobs have at least double the HP of equal level azeroth mobs, so it takes longer. Holy was only slightly less painful. Ret got me to 70 quite fast. I chose to do a lot of grinding for rep rather than quests (I killed so many arakkoa for LC rep... I lost count) and left me with a lot of quests for cash at 70.
