This post is pretty much what the topic implies. The only instance I've done before was with a couple of lvl 70's running me through a lvl 40 instance, so I havent done any before. I just did an instance last night in Shadow Labs at lvl 68 and I think I did awful. A couple times I accidentally hit the other hunter's mobs that he was going to trap, most of my traps were resisted, my DPS was awful just to name a few things. I know that I'm only 68 and it's natural to have lower dps and higher resistance to traps, but I think even a lvl 1 person couldve done better than me. The other people in my party told me I did well, but even for not doing an instance before I know that I did awful. I do pretty well in PvE quests and PvP on my hunter, but that instance was a nightmare. I really really hate being CC, I didnt realize hunters were used much for that til I got lvl 65 and I cursed for 10 minutes at that ><. I'm really tempted to reroll for rogue or a different job. What do you guys think? Should I stick it out and see if it gets better with practice or is all hope lost?
definitely stick it out... read the Trapping 101 sticky it'll help. And learn to use focus/distracting shot macros for trapping. Also remember that youre 68 meaning EVERY mob in there is higher than you... youre going to get resists, its inevitable. The group leader/tank should have recognized this and planned accordingly. Also as far as hitting the other hunters target... /assist is your friend... that way you always hit what the tank is hitting.

It's really all about the timing. If you're not a Survival Spec hunter (Which would allow your Trap to last as long as your cooldown), just learn to time your Traps so you can double trap the mob and still keep up your DPS. Keep your trap away from the party, and if its resisted, you should be able to set another one down. If not, just Feign Death and let the tank take him.
With better timing, a good Focus macro would work well. Just make a macro for a Distracting Shot focus target and keep your current target to DPS on. No need to click around or tab around until you find the right 'skull' or whatever target.
If you really have problems CC'ing on a hunter and pushing DPS at the same time, then roll another character. But I would try it out first. Maybe hunter does suit your style.
