Sweeping Strikes is very good for dealing AoE on trash. If you got 2 tanks doing their job close to each other, You can sit behind them and increase your overall dps by a lot.
Flurry is almost needed to generate enough rage to maintain the rotation. It also increase your dps by a lot.
Of course, these talents won't save your life and you can deal some dps without them but they are considered as the best talents to increase your dps.

Not really, you speed up your attack rate, but you slam more as well (if you're doing it right). The net result is not a huge increase in rage generation. That being said, I've had pretty good luck with a flurry-less build and taking advantage of the very static swing speed to time my slams better. The only time I would really reccomend flurry is when you start to have a fairly high crit rate, at which point you don't have to worry too much about clipping attacks due to your attacks speeding up and slowing down at irregular times, and at which point the higher amount of slams per minute and the slightly increased rage generation starts to pay dividends.
