Getting ready for kara can be easy if look up on the internet for guides.
Go to google, type "pre kara ( your class/spec here ) gear" You'll find tons of guides indicating a lot of items from quests, dungeons, crafts, pvp, etc...
Once properly gemmed and enchanted, you'll be ready for kara.
But you must realise that gear don't fall from the sky. If you want gear, GO GET IT. Farm gold, try to find groups for the dungeon you need, get the mats you needs, go bash balinda. An ideal way to work is to say: Today, I am working on my head ( example: Helm of the claw ).
Getting ready for kara is always a sastisfying experience ( That felling was really awesome when Kara was big ).
1) It's not hard, it's long.
2) Prot/Fury warrior. Mutilate rogue. Feral druid ( cat and bear gear ).
3)Not for War and Rogue. Yes for druid.

I used wowhead, searched for all items that would be upgrade in each slot compared to what i had and looked at how easy they were to obtain, and then set to it. And I enchanted/gemmed/... all that gear i got in order to be competitive (enchants easily add a full tier to your current gear, in terms of power levels).
I didn't have a single epic when we started KZ (moonkin druid) 1 month after BC came out.
Some of the upgrades i had planned for i never got because i ended up getting better gear from KZ before getting them to drop, but that's how you should plan your upgrades.
Of course that requires work so you can also rely on guides who did the same thing for you already.

If your players know what they need and have reasonable expectations they should have no difficulty preparing for Karazhan using only quest and normal instance rewards. I was able to plan out gear sets more than adequate to enter Kara for a protection warrior, hunter, and warlock and have helped other players do the same with a number of other classes. The introduction of the Shattered Sun Offensive reputation rewards has only made this easier.
If your guild members cannot find adequate gear for Karazhan from quests and normal instances then they are either not looking at the right rewards or have unreasonable expectations for what the raid requires.

The "Mage FAQ" sticky in the mage forum would be a good place to start looking since it includes all of the information you are looking for.

While i won't dispute the fact that some PvP items last a really long time, others have easy replacement. Don't get any PvP S3 items thinking that's the best you get, know your best gear for each slot and what you can access through PvE and decide from there.
