Is Leatherworking Worth It?

Ok, I came here to ask what specialization I should go with leatherworking but after looking over the end-game created items I'm wondering if I shouldn't drop it all together and back-level mining and just sell. Yeah, I've made some money with LW'ing and I've made myself some items that I'm currently using but had I leveled mining instead I would have made more money and could have just purchased the gear. I'd press through if I believed it would get better in the end but if I'm not mistaken it gets worse.
Dragonscale is the only mail item listed on this site and it's pretty clearly for shaman.
What do you all think?

I wasn't doing it solely for money. Actually when I picked it up I figured I'd lose gold. Over the course of 45 character levels and 250 leatherworking levels, I've made myself some armor kits and under ten pieces of gear. All of which (or at least comparable items) I could've purchased off the auction with the money I would have from selling the materials I would pick up with mining and skinning. Oh, I will say it is nice to always have the largest ammo-bag being a hunter, but other than that and a few pieces of gear here and there...
Not to mention the stuff I sold on auction isn't acutally being used, some Lv70 mage is DE'ing it for mats.

Drums. and BoP crafted items
and leg patches (can be 2-300 gold cheaper to make than to buy)
im sure there will be more lw items in WotLK that are strictly LW.
