Rolling a New Class, Which One?

Since you all are infinitely more helpful than the WoW forums, I've come here to ask a question. If I were to roll a new character, what realm would you recommend and what class?
Also, I don't mind Horde or Alliance, either's fine. Finally, if some one is willing to offer me a guild to join once I arrive, that'd be awesome.

I had thought about mage, shaman and warrior. Why Gnome though?

I really only play on one realm, Llane US, Alliance side. It's an old server, so the economy is pretty borked from what new transfers have stated. (I don't think it's too far off from most, honestly.) Most of the folks you meet are alts, but there is a small yet thriving group of folks moving up the levels in any range. Some days it takes a while to get a group, though. (More on this in a sec.)
For guilds, most are either best to avoid or high end raid guilds, as we have a fair number in BT / Hyjal from what I see. One good group of folks that stands out is Spectacular Death. They're in it to play, casual, and all over the board level-wise. the GL is one of the nicest folks around, and well liked among even the realm forum trolls. To my knowledge, they don't really raid, but as a fresh reroll, that won't be much of an issue.
Regarding leveling, groups, and class, I'd look at two things primarily: 1. It's a class you'd have fun with. 2. It's something that'll help you get those groups you may need for instancing. Best bet is something that can heal or tank, even if that's not what you primarily do. (Just have some offset gear for it.)
Enhance Shaman can easily heal most pre-BC instances if pressed, with the option to DPS well otherwise or while questing.
Paladins can easily fill one of a few roles with just a gear swapout early on. (I've seen some killer healing as Ret with some offset gear.)
Feral Druids are like Enhance Shaman: plop on the right gear and you're either tank or heals. Heck, even DPS.
Warriors can tank non-heroics while not specced Prot.
Priests can be DPS or healing.
Mages and Hunters make for fine CC, as can Warlocks and Rogues (to a lesser extent).
Really, look for that flexibility in a class that interests you, then learn to play that class well. As you continue up in levels, people will remember you and ask you to group up often.
Good luck in your journeys, and happy leveling to you.

My main is a tankadin, and I have several alts, but my favorite thus far is my shaman. Shamans offer a great deal of flexibility and there are plenty of fun things to do once you reach the higher levels. I was able to level my shaman in a comparatively short amount of time (I leveled my paladin almost the entire way as prot). However, I am working on leveling a mage... I get sick of being asked to heal.

Simple it all depends on your main
Mage => Shaman
Warlock => Rogue
Rogue => Warrior
Priest => Warrior/Hunter
Shaman => Druid
Druid => Shaman/Rogue
Warrior => Priest/Druid
Paladin => anything that can't heal
Hunter => Rogue
Well that's how I figure it out
