It doesn't even make too good an off-hand, slow / slow is usually preferable and if not that the off-hand should have excellent DPS and stats. The KD has decent DPS, that's it. It's a bad DW weapon and most warrior tanks would rather spit on you than invite you to a party if you used one as an off-hand.

For Protection tanks going into Fury gear, King's Defener is a suitable weapon to use for grinding or questing. I use Blazefury on the main hand & King's Defender in the off hand. Not a permanent weapon choice, of course, but I am Protection not DPS so I really don't care as long as I get the job done.

I wouldn't call it suitable, I would call it at best a placeholder until you get a proper offhand weapon. When dual-wielding, a prot warrior needs pretty much the same things in their weapons as a fury warrior does. My current MH weapon is the
Claw of Molten Fury
, and I'm hoping to soon pick up either
Rising Tide
or
Syphon of the Nathrezim
to go with it. I suppose I could pick up
Fist of Molten Fury
to complete the set, but that weapon isn't itemized that well for a warrior. Fury warriors may sometimes go for a quick offhand to secure a smoother rage generation, but with the rage efficiency talents of prot that really isn't necessary.
